    Speed vs. Rope Length

Just curious as to how the length of the rope might allow me to gain some more speed into the wake.. I have no problem clearing the wake.. But since I have put on my new Acme Prop.. I feel as if I have to go to fast just to get enough speed now to clear it.. before it wasn't this bad.. I'm not sure what Im using.. Maybe a 60'.. maybe... I clear the wake by about 4-6 feet usually.. Now i was barely coming down the lip of it at times.. i have been playing with the TAPS and all of that good stuff.. I just feel like going the speed that I want doesn't allow enough cut for me to get the speed I need to jump the wake.. Make sense?

Additional speed will lower the wake and push the ramp farther back. TRy shortening the rope by 10' first. Also, load the line all the way to the lip, then pop. Not sure if you are flattening before the ramp, but be sure to keep the rope loaded for as long as you can.

Also.. ask FiveFlat about it too... he sees a lot of good wakeboarders.

I have been boarding for 13 years so I know how to keep the line tight until I jump.. I carve as far out as I can.. Like usual.. And when coming back in my line is tight all the way through to my landing.. and I'm jumping the wake still.. I just feel like either maybe the wake is smaller with the new prop or I'm not able to get enough speed to clear.. and when I go faster.. obviously the wake gets smaller but narrower.. so I can jump it then.. any more pointers though? Much appreciated..

Sounds like you got it down. I cant imagine a prop change would actually lower the lip of the wake. Fatten up the ballast or borrow one of the chicks Fiver takes boarding with him. They are all over 350.

60' rope is way too short unless you are going really slow. My 9 year old son boards on a 65' rope at about 19-20MPH.
I skate on a 65' and keep it slow (I won't wakeboard anymore after a shattered femur in '99 doing a stupid simple wake jump)

Most adults board anywhere from 70-85' depending on speed. Rope length and speed go hand in hand sorta.

prop shouldn't effect the wake though. unless you don't have perfect pass and you are going by RPM to set your speed...

That is exactly what I'm doing.. LoL.. My freakin perfect pass never worked since I got the boat.. Bad Servo Motor.. long story.. anyway... so I usually cruise at 3000 RPMs with the new prop while wakeboarding.. So not using the perfect pass could mess up the wake????!!!!

If you are going by your RPM, absolutely it's messing you up.

I just changed my prop on my boat as well. (we have the same boat unless you have the blue V-drive)

I went with a ACME 911 and now wakeboard RPM for my son went from 2700RPM to 3500RPM (or thereabouts)

Basically, adjust speed until the wake whitewash is just behind your board .
                    Waiting for another good one!

well mine went from 2700 to 3000/3100 RPMs.. I'm not trying to ride the same RPMs as I did on the other prop.. I think I just got confuesed on what you were saying though.. anyway.. that is what perfect pass does anyway.. hold the RPMs at a certain number, right? Also.. I have the Blue drive.. What is your hole shot like??? and Top end speed? I'm WOT at 47-4800 RPMs and 38 MPHs...

I think the older perfect pass units had the paddle wheel. Newer PP uses GPS.
Hole shot in my boat is amazing, even with 1800lbs of weight. Top speed is less than desirable but tolerable. I won't go much over 4000RPM for fear of hurting my motor and I'm around 28MPH.

Ya your speed va rpm will change with the new prop. You don't have a speedo at all then?

Oh and you can upgrade a old PP to the gps version.

PP will hold a speed like 21mph. OR rpm. The speed one is a lot more accurate.
