does this boat need the 343 or will it perform ok with the 303? I have found one with 343, but loaded and has a high price. found another with 303, much better price, but not near as loaded.
Here is a thread about the 303 that JM was originally looking at. It may have some useful information for you, might even be the same boat.

There is a lot of good discussion on the smaller engine for the Z1 in the thread that skippabcool posted. I too had a similar dilema, but am sure glad that we went with the larger engine. However, we are at 5,000 ft elevation and had we been at sea level we probably would have been fine with the smaller 303hp engine. I sent you a PM with an '08 Z1 that just showed up on eBay. Keep in mind that all the boats we have looked at were used or dealer demo's. The jump in price to get a brand new 2010 or 2011 Z1 was just too much of a jump. Good luck with your search!

yup altitude SUCKS POWER. I've lived at 6250 ft my whole life. Several boats and all were pretty much 'ruined' by thin air. I say go for the bigger motor.

A gutless boat is like a having a hot girlfreind who doesn't put out. Nice to look at but not a lot of fun

OR vice versa...whatever hope I didn't offend too much..

but it's just a saying we have here..local boat humor. I'll never forget the day I brought home my first ever boat. It was a low profile delta boat with 140 Johnson OB. That pond runner really zipped along during the test drive. It went 45 down near Sacramento and to my horror it never got close to 40 up here..38/39 on a calm day was the best that slug would manage on Tahoe..shocking AND my freinds warned me..I just had to have that boat...doh

No worries down here in Missouri, we don't allow our womenfolk to read! LOL!

                  haha^ you so bad

I will say that first boat wouldn't pull a skier for nothing ..AND it turns out for kicks that we'd tow an old longboard. First time boarding behind a boat.

May I suggest finding a boat with the 343 and not as many options. This way you can add options as you go but kind of backwards to have all the options and not have a engine to back it up. Maybe the 303 can do the job but it's the engine that seems to make you question whether to buy.

Don't know what you will end up doing but if it involves ballast, you will possibly run up against wanting more ballast and wishing you had move ponies.

Have you found many boats with the 303 engine or more with the 343 or bigger and why?

I suspect it would be easier to go from a boat with the right engine and upgrade as you can/want to instead of having the options you want and then trying to find the money to upgrade the engine. You can do all the activities with the 343 with no options but you might find you don't like doing all the activities with a 303 with all the options.

Do you want a boat that performs "OK", or one that performs?

It's just my opinion... nothing meant by it, but it is coming from first hand experience.

Oppsss...To the new owner of that great black and white Z1...CONGRADULATIONS!!
