    Alpha Z/Metcraft Bimini Top Problem

Over the weekend I lost most of my bimini top. I'm not sure what the piece is called, but the attachment that clips into the tower came out of the frame. When that happened, the top kind of "parachuted" and all of the back seams ripped out. The back part of the frame and one of the support braces flew into the water and immediately sank. Anyone have any luck dealing with Metcraft on something like this or should I try to call someone else? I tried to call Metcraft today, but couldn't get an answer.

To the best of my knowledge, Metcraft is out of business.

I had a problem with my bimini last summer - best I can figure is that one of the tube's crimped ends pulled off from the swiveling anchor piece attached to the tower. The whole front end taco'd back over the top and bent most of the tubes (luckily, no one in the back was hit with anything). Anyway, dealer got a new bimini support frame warranteed from Tige, but when it arrived, it didn't work with the existing setup. Eventually, after not being able to get anything else done to correct it, he took it to a local shop and had them modify it to make it work.

So, my suggestion - first, contact Tige. Second option (and may be required even if step 1 is successful) - go to a local upholstery shop that handles biminis.

That's exactly what happened to mine. I had a bad feeling that they weren't going to be around when I tried to call. The biggest problems I've ever had with both of my Tiges were Metcraft issues. I'll try to call Tige tomorrow.

Transition away from Metcraft biminis was mid-season 2009. I recently ordered a surf bimini -- it does not work with the older bimini extension (two zippers on rear of bimini and front of extension vs. one zipper for metcraft).
