I did that in 1980 and went with the Z-28

I was in the same boat about a month ago I test drove the Z1 and R20 I went with the R20 but from someone that just got finished looking at both boat I can tell you that the R20 drives better and is right around the same price the RZR starts around 60 from what I have seen

UPDATE: met the wife at the dealer after work (he stayed open for us, which was nice).

Neither of us liked the R20. It just didn't reach out and grab us. Walked over to the z1 and I thought my wife was gonna love it. She liked it, but then she saw the RZ2. She loved the RZ2, but the price was mid 70k range (which is too high IMO). Loved the room and upholstery. The bow was huuuuge.

For comparison, I can get a new Malibu Wakesetter VLX for upper 60k that is loaded (minus heater).

We are going to look at a VLX for comparison before buying anything.

You should see if you can drive the BU compared to the Tige

I drove a 22VE before buying my Z1 and the Z1 seemed more manuverable and sporty feel and the 22VE seemed more bulky and bigger to drive. I didn't really expect that much of a difference going 1 ft bigger, but I noticed it. IMO - the Z1 is more like a Ferrari and the 22VE is more like a Mercedes.

When looking at different size boats though other things to consider (in case you haven't thought that far)
                1. tow rig - bigger boat = bigger tow vehicle
                2. bigger boat may not fit in your garage?
3.Bigger boat will use mroe gas.
4.How many people do you usually take out? if it is only 3-4, then no need for a 24VE unless you like them?
I am sure there is a much longer list that others can add to.

You will NOT be disappointed with a Tige though!

Make sure you compare apples to apples the RZ2 does not compare to the VLX. The Z1 is the same size and price as the VLX. Malibu doesn't really have anything exact (until next year) to compare with the RZ2. You may want to look at 23LSV's to give a you more fair comparison. The RZ2 is going to be close to or the same pricing as the 23LSV, but it will have a more roomy bow and the 23LSV will have a slightly larger cockpit.

                    Bamabonners:

we own a 07 22VE and very pleased. We bought from Nelems and had good experience yet live in Atlanta. There is no local Tige dealer. We really like our boat and know the more recent models with newer goodies are even better. RZ2 is frequently described here as very good boat and especially strong surf boat. Good luck in your search.

If she liked the rz2 then you need to find a rzr to look at, they are so much nicer than the r20 but a little more money. Same size though.

We'll use it for the typical multi-purpose family boat. Crew will be me, the Admiral, 1 son (8 1/2 yrs old), buddies of my son, neighbors, and other families. My wife calls me Clark Griswold because I am always inviting people on the lake to have fun. I want to have plenty of room and power to do whatever they crew wants to do. I want to try surfing and wake boarding, son will try skiing and boarding, wife likes to lounge.

Well with how many people you want to carry and what you want to do.I think the Z1 OR the RZR would work. The Z1 has a 100" beam as opposed to the RZR which has a 94" beam. This less width means less weight is needed to sink the boat in the water for surfing or wakeboarding. The RZR will seat 12 as opposed to the Z1 at 10,both should handle your crew. The Z1 is a 21 foot boat, but most trailers have a swing away tounge and will fit in your standard garage. The malibu you mentioned is more comparable to the Z1 and similar in size to the RZR.Hope this helps.

Same thing happened to me. I had my heart set on a 22Ve/24Ve and the wife saw the RZ2 and I got overruled. I was just trying to save a few $$$ by going the other route but I am not complaining! Love our RZ2.

Drive both. Research construction methods. Research warranty. We've seen many pics of paper thin Malibu's. I've seen it first hand and yikes! Just don't make a skin deep purchase, that's all.
