Two Projects = Great Surf Wave

I did not know which thread to post this under, seeing this is the culmination of two projects I did this offseason. So I created a new thread.

I completed the Smoothing out the RZ2's swim platform back in April - http://www.tigeowners.com//forum/sho...+Swim+Platform

Then I did the Removing Built in Cooler just a couple weeks ago - http://www.tigeowners.com//forum/showthread.php?t=14813

I must say I am very happy with the results. First off, I am relieved that the added wood and filler to the bottom of the swim deck made the 45 minute drive from home to cottage with out falling off onto the interstate.

This Memorial Day weekend was not the best weather wise but we were still able to get in the 60 degree water. I took some pictures on Saturday afternoon when the wind was still blowing. So the water was not the best.
I filled the Dark Side sac completely full. I calculated that with the Cooler removed I was going to gain over 200 pounds of water. Whatever the final extra pounds are, it made a huge difference (My Sister-in-law asked me if we could tip over.). I had to increase the speed of the boat 2 mph so I did not have an extremely steep and short wave. Once, I got the boat speed set to 12.4 mph and TAPS set to 4/5 the wave was long and still provided a ton of push. I rode the wave Monday and I was getting lots of push from 10-15 feet behind the boat.

The smoothing of the swim deck also made a big difference. With the entire Dark Side custom surf sac full the swim deck was 8 to 12 inches below water at a stand still, so the swim deck was dragging in the water while moving. Unfortunately, I did not get a good picture of the results, but the smoothness of the deck removed the secondary lip on the wave. I noticed this when I rode Monday. It was a smooth wave from bottom to top.

I would recommend both of these projects to anyone that is thinking about it. They do not take much time and effort. If you need help let me know and I can give you pointers/tips from what I learned.

I will continue to update with pictures once we find a day with out much wind and I have more time to play around with weighting and my wife is not driving, watching kids and trying to take pictures of her husband surfing.

Looks great! Hard to tell the full effect when you have choppy water though. Can't wait to see some pics on smooth water.

Right on Booms, nice work. I'm anxious to see the wake on some good water.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Subscribing. The wake off my 2007 24Ve platform is washy beyond belief. Even with 6 BIG guys in the corner and sides I could not get a decent enough wake to free ride.

24ve is a big boat, it's gonna take a lot of weight to get a nice clean wave.

For the 24Ve I would search for the RagBoy theards discussing his pursuit of a perfect wave behind the 24Ve. He did change out his swim platform with aluminum to achieve the same affect.

Yeah, I have read RagBoys thread. Good info there, just wish there was an easier way to fix that damn platform..

Just got my 1000lb+ L shaped sac from Mike (ChpThril) on Friday. Unfortunately, they (the manufacturer, not Mike) shorted me 3 of the 6 drain/fill plugs. I should have them by end of this week, so I will soon see how much the added weight helps. Can't hurt tho!

Here's how my 21V listed with the 1100lbs jumbo surf sac, I would imagine you won't sink quite as much

                    Waiting for another good one!

The way I smoothed out the platform took me (including the time for the coating to cure) 5 days. Of those five days work time was probably 4-6 hours. It was not that difficult, just puttzy.

Whoooooaaah Nelly!!! Where did you place the sac? Under the port seat? Mine will sit on top of the rear and port side seats.

That may be the way for me to go then. Thanks for the input! So you are happy with the way yours cleaned up the wake right?

The storage locker on these older 21V's are huge. That jumbo sac fits in my locker.

It's a deceiving pictures. It's really not that low.
and before you ask... I don't roll with my buoys out. I'm running the buoy because I'm pulling up to another boat - the same boat the camera that took the picture is on

Sorry if this is beginning to hijack the thread...
