Does your radio head unit require the engine battery switch to be on?

Mine does, and has from the factory. I have the Tower of Power system and the amplifiers are wired to the house (not starting) battery. But the head unit won't power up unless the engine battery switch is turned on AND you turn the key to the On (not Accessory) position.

Everything else on the boat (lights, blower, manual bilge, etc.) works either in the Acc position or with no key at all.

That strikes me as odd. Is this normal? What is the logic? Why make the radio head end an engine subsystem?

Mine is the same. Reread mine works in either the on or acc postition but it needs the battery switch on.

iwndr if it is because it would be easy to leave the radio on with no volume or an input that is not used and drain the battery. Then again you could do that with all the acc items.

The head-units red remote turn-on wire is wired to the ACC and the RUN positions of the key switch. The key switch is powered off the helm BUSS which is wired to the main starting battery.

When wiring up an install, I usually suggest moving the red remote turn-on to a dedicated toggle. Its an easy mod to due.

My guess is that Tige does this to prevent the system from being left on, if they are in the habit of not using the main switch.

Any good reason not to change this? Since I have two isolated batteries, each with its own battery switch, I'm thinking it would be nice to just have them completely separate.

                    Same here from factory.

But I had the dealer wire it up on its own, away from ignition. The main problem I wanted to overcome was the pause in music when shutting the engine off to acc position every time a rider went in or out of the water.

I love the new config and would not go back to having it acc wired.

Same here, read this post-caused me a dead battery some how Sunday.

But after the battery episode Sunday, now the HU mysterously comes in ACC location with key, I am reading your post right after I just posted to my thread. I thought maybe I was wrong, but now knowing a few others have the same problem, at least I am not the only one. Just be careful, using the stereo in the key run instead of key ACC gave me a dead starting battery and major headache on Sunday.

Did yours come from the factory that way? Any aftermarket work on stereo?

I have one battery switch and two switches under the dash we turn off/on when ever we start/end our day for teo factory batteries.

Bone stock Tower of Power, two batteries, isolator, single battery switch on engine battery. I've added a battery switch on the house battery, but all else is factory. Specifically, no changes to sound system or underdash wiring - yet.

Mine only requires perko on. No key required.

                              But mine is quite old.
                              Waiting for another good one!
