    Tube & Surfboard Recommendations

We purchased an 06 Tige 24V last winter. In the past few weeks we've taken the boat out a couple times. We've skied; wake boarded and pulled a tube. The boat performed very well with no surprises and we love the FAE.

Although the kids enjoyed the tube (two person round tube), I'd like to purchase a two or three person winged tube. Any suggestions on brand, model and best place to purchase?

Also, I'd like to purchase a surfboard. Any suggestions on model, length, brand and best place to purchase? I'd prefer a board the whole family could use. I'm the tallest family member at 6 ft-200lbs.

    Thanks.

Tubes are not popular topics of conversation on this board, but knowing that I was going to need one for kids and newbs, I went out to find one that I could really put a teenager or my overconfident father on and really give them their money's worth, and I think I found the perfect one so I'll focus my response on it, since other surfers on here are more knowledgeable in that area (though I will say that as soon as you buy a starter or boat board you will want a better one for you).

The tube I went with and one that I'l probably never replace until I absolutely have to is the Grindwater Rekoner.

It is stiff and low profile, so that you have a lower center of gravity, yet stay high out of the water, wich means you can go insanely fast around a whip without getting tossed. And the teardrop shape helps with this as well. It comfortably fits two people and the best part about it is the neoprene pad accross the top that prevents your knees and upper thighs from getting rashed up on the shell. I have never seen another tube that can take a more intense whip with a skilled rider without taking a spill. Also, if it is your cup of tea, you can buy the rockwater tunes accessorie that fits neatly in the mesh pocket on the front of the tube. It is a waterproof device that serves as a speaker accessory for your ipod and the people on the tube can jam without having to blare the tower speakers. I've seen both the tube and the rockwater player on huge sale on those one deal a day sports discount type websites, and that is actually where I got the tube. I'm pretty sure I got it for around 100 bucks and it kills any typical obrien type tube out there for the price. You just have to keep your eyes open. I have not had any experience with the rockwater player, so i can't speak for that. Obviously, if you want a tube with the dognut hole in it, this isn't the one for you. However, if you are someone that is forced to tube, wants performance, this is the one for you. They also have some other very innovative designs for tubes on their website. I highly recommend it.

Disclaimer: see one of the fifty threads on this site about tow rings, ski pylons, towers, gel coat cracking for info on where to actually tow from on a Tige , and after pulling your hair out not having a clear answer, figure out whats best for you, cross your fingers, and hope for the best.

Although not a winged tube, we have the Coleman Amp'd tube and it easily will hold 4 adults. Only 125.00 at ****'s Sporting goods, cheap at twice the price. We have the Broadcast and most people are riding ropeless by the end of their first weekend. It is just slow and steady. Just purchased the Triple x Nitro to use this weekend for the first time. I will give you a report on Tuesday.

Note: after all this typing, I went to their site and there don't seem to be any tubes listed there. Either I'm missing somethign or they got out of this business and went strictly with wakesurfers. If so, that would be sad, because thos tubes kick a$$.

Forced into tubing? Man, things are tough all over. We don't tube so no recommendations from me on that.

The Broadcast 5'6" has been, and still is the board of choice for much of my crew. The wife and I have our own boards now but, for those who just want to surf and not struggle with letting go of the rope, the old Broadcast (mine is so old it is actually the original Landlock) is the board they pull from the quiver. I even ride it once in a blue moon just for chits and giggles.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I have not tried it yet, waiting for the rain / snow to stop and some free time, but I went with the 5' 6" Hyperlite Broadcast. My hope is that they whole family can use it and then if needed we will move on from there.

RT mentioned the Liquid Force Trip, that is a wakeboard and a good board. That is the board that I have and from what I have seen it is a good beginner board but it allows you to advance on it as well. I know that you only asked about surf and tubes but thought I would add my

For the tube we went with a HO GTX from Costco, I think we paid $179 (comes with rope and pump). We just got it but looks like it will be fun. The one that I was originally going to purchase was the SeaDoo 2 person from Sams Club for I think $89 or $99. My parents have that one and we all love it. Because they have it we decided to get a different one.

                      Tube:
We love our Great Big Mable 4 person towable. Had since 06, on 3rd innertube of the Great Big Mable. While my kids can wakeboard & surf, their friends can't very well so this is our go to item. After several summers, we have the gelcoat cracks that came from my pylon not being tight, so am doing the pylon reinforcement for piece of mind this summer. (Here is what I am got from user NOBODY a few weeks ago -- http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...9&postcount=34 )

I can keep 8 or 12 kids entertained at the same time, 4 on 4 (or 8) off. The ones on are laughing their heads off. The ones off are watching those on and reminiscing on how much fun they had during their last ride. Even my wife likes it. When we stop for lunch all the kids lay out on it. Only problem is at 8.5 ft wide you it's a bear to fill and stow. I bought the hi volume pump.

                      SurfBoard:
Upgraded to an Inland Surfer Blue Lake. Our first was a CWB Razr-not bad, but I was too heavy for it @200#. The Blue Lake is awesome. We also have the Inland Surfer Squirt Molded one and that can go from 100#-to probably 200#. I can ride it, it seems faster, but I prefer the blue lake.

Highly recommend the Costco tube special; a real hit with kids as you can haul 4 of them at once to get the tubing over with quick and move on to the more important stuff. My motto holds true "If Costco doesn't have then I don't need it"
