Whining V-Drive

And no...one of my kids isn't back there whining...

Put the boat in this past weekend to get her ready for the summer and put her in the lift. We took a ride and ran up to around 4000 rpm...just cruising. Hear a high pitched whining noise that we couldn't locate at first but then traced it back to the transmission. I'm going to check the fluid level this weekend to make sure it's full. It's not incredibly loud...almost blends in with the wind/engine noise, but it's definitely noticeable...and new. This is the first time I've ever heard it.

Any thoughts or ideas?

My fuel pump did that on my previous Mastercraft. The next time out I was stranded. I wasn't smart enough to realize what the noise was until next time I got towed in by a 1979 Bayliner.

For the record, fuel pump failures are pretty common with Mastercraft, but I hardly hear about them on this forum.

Does it occur only when at higher RPM's? Point being the 3 tracking fins put off a harmonic/whinning tone about 30-35mph (can't exactly remember what speed), but only at a certain speed range. Just a piece of information for what it is worth - hopefully nothing seriously wrong with your transmission.

Only happened when i was above 30 mph. So far all good advice...other than Dingle of course.

So far I'm planning on checking the transmission oil level, the fuel pump and the tracking fins. Any other things to look for?
