Mystery holes in my 24Ve passenger area!?!

We only had the new boat on the water for one weekend before tucking it away for the winter. Now that I'm installing ballast systems and other goodies, I'm sitting on the floor and looking in corners and so forth, finding all sorts of interesting things.

Here's what I found today. On the left side:

    ...and on the right:

Why are these holes here? They look like they were hogged out roughly, like something was going to be installed, and then someone just forgot to install whatever it was. The holes are roughly symmetrical side to side. They look large enough for speakers but they'd be downfiring, so that's not likely.

Any ideas out there? Anyone have symmetrical round objects installed on both sides in these locations? Any suggestions for what I should put there now, to clean it up? It looks really nasty. I can't believe it came from the factory this way.

These are so you can reach inside and check the nuts that tighten the tower to the boAt without taking the entire side panel off. I agree a bit rough, at least they coiled have taken the bur off the edge.

My 09 22ve has the same holes. They were handy when I installed my tower speakers and had to wire them up. The tower was prewired to that spot on the port side.

Thanks, everyone! Now, to find something reasonable to fill those holes. Perhaps a soft light to illuminate the upper passenger compartment a bit.

No problem. Speaking of lighting. I installed some LEDs under there to light up the cup holders. I'll post some pics up when I get the boat back out. I also thought about using the those holes for heater vents if I ever install one.

That's actually one of the things I thought they might have been intended for - heater outlets.

I'd like to see the photos of your lights when you get a chance. Thanks!

Sounds good. I'll try to get them posted in a few days.

Light idea is a great idea! Maybe some lights that match your boat color kind of idea.

Since you never noticed them until you were lying on the floor, why not leave them alone?

That was an expression. We only spent a couple of running hours on the boat after its delivery before tucking it away for the winter, just to make sure nothing happened on its ~2500 mile journey to us. For all intents and purposes, it's new to us as of right now. It's only now that we are actually spending some time with it that things like this are starting to surface.

Now that I understand they're not there by oversight, I can do something tasteful about them. No big deal.

Nice! Do you have a photo of their installation? A make or model?

I used the ones I asked about in this thread...

No photo of installation... too simple to take photos of. They're milliamps. I just daisy chained them around the hull.

I agree installation is obvious (particularly the wiring), but what I'm wondering is if the fixtures you found fit natively into those roughly 4-5 inch diameter holes, or if you had to build something to make it work. It's a mechanical question, not an electrical one.
