    Impeller + patroleum jelly = ??

I installed a new impeller last week and used a little vaseline to help put the new one in. Now I read not to use patroleum based jelly. Is it going to ruin my new impeller?

I believe it breaks down the rubber. A new one is a lot less hassle to switch out rather than blow one up on the lake.

Did your impeller not come with some lube? Mine came with glycerin, impeller lubricant.

I don't know the answer to your question. I just use soap.

Mine didn't come with anything. I'm just wondering if I need to change it again. Surely it won't deteriate that fast. I barely put any on it.

It might, and don't call me Shirley.

            Sorry, had to.

                  KY Jelly is water soluble.

Yeah, it's the only other use I could think of for it too.

I've never used anything on my impellers. Not sure of the differences between yours and mine though.

It so much easier for me to just pull the entire housing off and replace it on a workbench. But I have to if I want to get to it anyway... it's tight back there on my '99

Not sure how easy it is to get an arm down there on your '08
                      Waiting for another good one!

That is what I do. Much easier.

Had to call the shop that winterized the boat to make sure I understood what they did with my impeller before posting. They used vaseline just on the outer edges of the impeller and a very thin amount on the sidewal. They have been doing this for 17yrs and haven't had a problem yet. So you should be good to go.

There's got to be a rubber-safe persistent lubricant in the automotive business for this sort of thing.

I use a little vaseline around the edges too & definitely on my side walls...
