    Removing Built in Cooler

I have an 08 RZ2 and I am getting it ready for summer today and was about to put in the starboard custom surf sac and was looking at the cooler that is in the way. The last two years I have been pushing the sac around the cooler but this year I am thinking about removing it. Has anyone removed their cooler? If so, any suggestions.

    Thoughts.......

I want to do this too but we use it as a trash can. It looks like you could just use something to wedge between the glue and kind of pry it out.

Timmy! I was thinking the same thing but damn that glue works well.

I had a small crowbar that I was using and I did not know how much pressure I could put on it before I break something. I was trying to do it from underneath the seats from the starboard rear compartment. It is a tight fit for a guy that is 6'2".
I was thinking that I might try a sawzall or a rotozip with a cutting wheel next to weaken the glue. Then pry on it with a crowbar.
I was also thinking of just destroying the cooler and when it comes time to sell the boat I would purchase a new cooler and supply it loose. This method will depend on the cost of the cooler insert.

Try using a heat gun to warm up the glue to make it easier to remove....Dont put the gun soo close to the fiberglass though that it will start to warp it.....keep it slow and steady, you just need to heat it up to get it stick, not burn the hell out of it.

Light200 would a hair dryer work? I do not own a heat gun.

I think it is worth a shot to try before you go buy one. Don't you?

Stand inside of it while you are heating it up...no, seriously, stand in it!

I was doing that last night and it was cracking and I thought the bottom was going to break out. However, the glue and cooler were at ambient temps.
I will heat up and try standing in it again.

Hmmm - I was thinking that with the heat and some downward pressure that it might help it along.

sawzall, works great, cut it wright down the middle, at least thats what i did on my 2005 24v, what a waist of space, that cooler is worthless, i carpeted that space and use it for storage.

What is everyone doing for cooler space then?

My RZ2 came with a soft sided cooler from American Outdoors and I put that under the bow filler cushion. I have either the 36 or the 48 pack, not sure which it is but we throw 10 to 20 lbs of ice and a ton of beverages in that thing and it works pretty well but weighs about 50lbs or more when it's full.

So new tige boats don't come with coolers? The 24v cooler location is terrible!

That soft side cooler is AMAZING and it fits perfect under the bow filler cushion. I will take that over a built in cooler any day.

I need to think about removing that cooler if only to allow my starboard surf sack to fill more.
