    Adding courtesy lights: opinions?

So my boat doesn't have any courtesy lights and it's really dark in there when we're idling home and trying to clean up the fatsacs, and everything else in the dark.

I'm looking at some LED lights to fix to the fiberglass beneath the seats and I'm not sure if I should get the kind that shines down for a "step" or the kind that shines out.

I'm worried that the "step" light won't illuminate enough, or the other kind will shine up into your eyes too much.

I'm looking at the two below. Help?

My memory seems to tell me that I suspect chpthril, ET, and possibly philwsailz to have a mutual led fetish. Perhaps they can weigh in with expert opinion

      Fiveflat,
I had those same exact lights in my old 21v and I loved them. I mounted two of the step lights in the front walkway under the seats. In the main seating area I had 3 total of the second light you have pictured. One under the seat with the cooler and two above the rear speakers. The step lights illuminate great but the other one spread the light arouond more in the open areas. Overall the lights are mounted low enough that it does not get in your eyes, also I had them on there for 5 years and never gave me a problem. Here are some pics.

I don't have any pics of it but I also mounted two white step lights in the blower vent to shine down on the swim platform.

        Dunker,
That looks outstanding. The red is even better! Were you able to really see well with the red color at night as well?

Also, what tower is that on your 21V?
        Waiting for another good one!

Thanks, I went with the red since the boat had red accents on it already, the red didn't affect night driving but the blue in the front speakers would sometimes make night driving hard. I'm not sure if it was the color or just where the speakers were compared to where the red lights were. The tower was a factory E series tower off of a 2005 24v, it fit the windshield lines, and the front holes perfectly, just had to drill two new holes in the rear (it was off about an inch from the metcraft tower holes). The tower was my favorite upgrade I did to that boat.

              Thanks! I ordered the lights...

Now I'm off to find that tower. Any idea where to find one?

Hey Five! I don't know where you live but I just came across this tower on CL. I'm guessing it's not far from my house and I can go take a look at it if you are interested.

I'm in Northern California. His price is just a bit too much.... I think?

I think it's a good price, since it includes speakers, racks and a mirror.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

I don't think it's too bad at that price. But the cost and hassel to get it to you would probably not be worth it. I was just throwing it out there :-)

Probably right. The mirror, and racks are a plus. Don't need speakers though... But yea, pretty far from me and it would be a haul.

Five, don't know CA geography, but I remember looking into this one when replacing mine.

I have the same boat as you...

I saw that thread and immediately went out to measure. Won't fit.
