    Steering Cable 07 RZ2

    Hey everyone,

Im a little new to this site, but could really use your help. I have a 07 RZ2 (original owner) and my steering is extreemly stiff. From what I have read, it seems to be the cable. The only problem is, I have no idea what size, type, brand or anything of what I should get. and I dont want to get involved in replacing it until I have the replacement to throw back in. Any help would be great. Thanks

    steering cable route RZ2

I don't know if you have already fixed your problem, but if you haven't I might be able to help you. I just replaced my cable on my 07 RZ2 at 300hrs. The steering was very stiff at the beggining of this season. Everything I have read about it seemed to inform me that it was going to be a total pain. I was going to wait until winter time to change it after I talked to 2 different mechanics who told me as long as I didn't mind the stiffness it would hold up. They were wrong. Last Saturday it broke on me up by the helm. Thankfully it was by the helm and not the rutter. It still had the whole length of the stiff cable to hold the rutter in place. Anyway I cut the cable to make removal easier and pulled it out from each end. The cable was an 18ft cable. However replacing it through the same path it came out would have been almost impossible without cutting the hole in the floor larger or moving the gas tank which was almost completely full. What I did was get a cable 1 foot longer (tfextreme SSC15419) and I ran it from the helm, through the whole in the wall in front of the helm that all the wires run through at the top right corner, down to the whole in the front right compartment where the hull ventilation and the heater hoses come through the floor. Once I temporarly moved the ventilation duct to the side, the cable went through the floor with no problem. I then went on top of the tank and straight back to the rutter. There are a couple of great threads on here of how to do the rest. The route I ran my cable removed that hard 180 degree turn under the helm and made it a much more gradual turn. It was also very easy to get the cable through the floor as long as you don't mind your cable showing a little in your front compartment. I here these cables don't last a long time but with the route I chose I won't mind changing it at all the next time it needs it. It was worth it to me to save $400 in labor. Hope this helps.

Get your cable from Jamestown distributors. That is where i got mine. Granted I only had to get the 17' one it cost me $101.62. I believe they are still running the free shipping.

(tfextreme SSC15419) the last two numbers are the length and the 154 means that it is the upgraded Extreme Cable. I believe (SSC13419) would be the standard cable in 19’.

      Hope that helps

What is the difference in the extreme versus the std OEM teleflex cable.

The extreme (154) is supposed to be more durable, and last longer. I just put one on my 2003 21i. Fixed my steering immediately.
