    Fuel issues need help

I have a 1999 21V Tige. IT has about 130 hours on It and had been in storage for 5 years. Before I bought it and before we put it in the water. It had a complete service with a new fuel pump and fuel filter put on along with an new impeller. It has run great no issues for about 10 hours. Last week we shut it off to change boarders and it was hard to start. After finally starting we ran 20 minutes and then shut it off again. It would not restart except it did fire and idle roughly a couple of times but would not take power. Then it would not fire at all.

I thought it sounded like fuel. I do not believe the tank was completely drained during service. Checked the fuel filter and the gas in it was a darker yellow, not t all like new gas but not water separation . Do I need to drain the gas tank and if so what else should I do or look for? What is the best method to drain the gas tank if that is what to do?

    Any suggestions?

I'd drain it and start with fresh gas.

I siphoned my tank dry last year with a clear hose. Not the safest thing to do, but it worked. I then used my oil vac to get the rest out of the corners of the tank.

Throw a can of Sta-Bil in the tank when refilling it.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

I use stabil and sea foam. I always run a can of sea foam through the tank at the beginning of each year. I double the stabil at the end of the year and fill the tank. After I run my tank out in the beginning of the year then I change my fuel/water seperator.

the oil sucker is a good idea AdaminMN.

Check your water separation fuel filter. After sitting that long you might have still had water in the tank and the filter will catch it. Remove it, empty it, fill with fresh fuel and screw it back on. When you empty it do it in a clear jar to see if you get any water/gas separation.

The 1st year I had the boat I change my filter and didn't put any gas into the filter. It fired and ran for a short period until the line was empty I guess. I couldn't figure out why it would fire and after trying for a little bit, it final fired. Didn't make that mistake again.

TRD, had that same experience, isn't it amazing how long it takes the fuel pump to fill that little cannister.

First-timer, was it smoking and coughing when it restarted and ran rough? If so, take the air temp sensor, in the top of the intake manifold it's a two wire sensor that sits vertical directly behind the throttle body, and clean it with carb cleaner. Often we see these sensors give a flase reading when the oil level is over full. The crankcase vent dumps right on to it and coats it in oil. When you stop to change riders the sensor gives a cool reading when you restart the motor and overfuels the engine and it won't set a code. Try that before you go playing with fuel as the engine ran fine until you shut down. Keep us posted.

I have a 99 21V as well and this exact thing happened to me after purchasing a boat that had sat for some time. Ran great then all it would do is start and take no power at all. I thought it was a fuel injector problem but luckily I had little fuel in the tank, took it out to lake ran empty and put fresh in and has ran fine ever since! I would get the bad gas out of there and you should be fine.
