    Z1 vs 20V or 22VE

I know this is a fairly vague question, but overall how is the performance of the Z1 for wakeboarding and wakesurfing as compared to the 20V or 22VE? Let's assume no ballast for now.

Is a Z1 truly a step down from the 22VE? A step up from the 20V?

    Thanks!

My opinion would be to see each one or maybe even get behind each one and compare for yourself. I was told that you can surf behind the 22 Ve without ballast, when I was checking it out last fall there was not much of a wave to catch and I didn't see what fun it would be to be pulled around the lake with the rope, so I bought a custom sac. For wakeboarding at my level and the ones that go with me the wake is plenty big, for what we are comfortable with, and I do not see any need for the time being to add any ballast for wakeboarding. It may be possible in the future.

I am hoping to get out boating shortly and you would be more than welcome to come and see mine for yourself.

Here are some pics of the wake. Ignore the boarder, this was about my 5th time.

If nobody reads this the water temp was a perfect 60 ish.

Wow everyone is soooooo nice on this forum, thanks for the invite. That looks like quite the wake that it already throws without ballast. I'm just excited to get us locked in on a Tige and get on the water. We may add ballast regardless of what we get. Any recommendations, what did you get?

I would reccomend the 22VE, then Z1 and then 20V. The 20V and Z1 are a Toss up between them but the 22VE has the most possibility if in budget.

I went with the custom sac and pump from Chpthrl, great guy. He had some others that were cheaper but I wanted to go big to start with so I wasn't upgrading after a short period. I also got a 1235 prop. I will get to test both of these out once I get on the water.

I choose the 22 Ve because I wanted the room for two families or my family plus the kids friends without being crowded. So far we have been happy.

We own 07 22 Ve that came w factoty ballast (dual 250lb hard tanks in back and v-bag upfront). Our experience has been surfing on 22Ve w no ballast is kinda lousy unless lots of people are onboard to act as ballast. Factory ballast was somewhat but lacking for surf activity. We then added 400lb fatsac using manual fill and things got lots better so last yr we used 500-1000 lbs via 1-3 bags of ballast plus people. I got tired of filling 3 bags real fast so upgraded. This yr expanding to 1000-1500 lbs via custom ballast from Mike's Liquid Audio (Chpthril and a great guy) plus orig manual bag as fallback when fewer folks are onboard. We have not been out YET. Also depends on size of the surfer and board too. I'm big guy and need bigger wave so thats a factor. See this thread in ballast section for the overview of the bag install that Mike did for us:

Hope this helps and not too much overkill. JB

                Skippa,

Rotate your left palm down on the handle and you will have it dialed.
It will feel odd for a while but you will get used to it and it makes a huge difference.

Honestly you cannot go wrong with any of those boats. Basically the decision between those three boats should be about size and budget. You can make a great wake out of all of them.

BTW, when looking at the Z1, make sure it has all the features you want. I know certain things that where standard on the 20V and 22Vé were not standard on the Z1. Off the top of my head one was a depth finder.

I wouldnt really consider any of them a step down from anything. The 20V is 20ft Tige built with the same engine and other materials as the Z1 and 22Ve. The Z1 is just as 21ft boat as compared to the 22ft 22ve. The Ve boat is Tige's Flagship line, so it comes with standard features and options that may not be available on the others.

With no ballast, i would have the rank the Z1 as the best out-of-the-box surf wake out there, period. between the 3, I would say the 20V just might edge the 22Ve for a better non-weighted surf wake. Now, load up a 22ve and ring the bell, the match is over.

Seriously, get a ride/pull in all of them if you can. They are all great boats, so this would help you decide which fits your needs the best. I would also say go with the biggest you can store/afford/tow. This helps stave off the dreaded 2ftitis as long as possible We went from an 18ft (included molded-in swim platform) I/O to the 22Ve and did not regret it on bit.
