    Strainer question

I decided to buy and install a strainer after a friend pointed out to me that my boat did not have one, but I have a question first. The existing intake hose measures 1 1/4" so I bought a strainer to match with 1 1/4" ports. Turns out this thing looks way to big for the space I have to work with. West Marine sells one that is about half the size with 1 " ports. Can I use this and just put a 1" pipe to 1 1/4" barb adapter on it or will that restrict the flow necessary for the intake?

Is the 1-1/4" the I.D. of the inlet or the O.D.?Pictures or a link would help us help you.

Do you have a pic of the one you bought? No I would not step it down to the 1".I have put the 1 1/4 on all the boats it fits fine. On DD boats like your we hang it from the raw waterpump bracket.

The 1 1/4" is I.D. Here is a pick of the strainer. It measures 7 1/4" tall and 7" wide. I'll try to post a pic of my work area tomorrow but the hose is only about a foot long fromthe hull to the water pump and it's a tight area.

That is a good strainer. Those hose barbs dont look to be 1 1/4..hard to tell from a pic but they look to be 1". We use are 90 degree 1 1/4 hose barbs. you will have trouble whith those straight one sticking way out like that.
