    another quality issues

ive had the tige 2004 20v for 3 months now and i just feel the need to vent out the frustration of facing a new defect issue when i take the boat out for a ride, also to share my experience so that this site may get a fair rating of what their boat is all about and also as a reference to other owners who may have the same problems but are not aware of.

damaged trailer from shipping - it seemed that they trailered the boat all the way to the shipyard. prop guard was heavilly scraped underneath , lots of rust, due to low ground clearance. rear side step was dented probably from hoisting to pallete.

Lots of factory debris in the hull. Screws, nuts, carpeting, fiberglass..

Board rack screws were incompatible. Thread was coarse while hole was fine. Had to rethread and used longer screws to hold it together. It also slips from the tower so had to mount it at the lowest point. It also sucks that it destroys the powder coating of the tower.

broken ballast pump= sinking. 1st time out in the water and the boat was half filled with water! Bilge pump was clogged with debris from factory. bailed water out manually before finding source of leak was in the internal ballast system, one of the four pump had its hose attached only partially then tightened down breaking the brittle yellow plastic. Also cleared debris from the bottom intake of the bilge pump.

another broken ballast pump. Found it when I was filling front port ballast and it wasn’t filling so I proceeded to check ballast. Same cause as the 1st damaged ballast.

Cooler leaking because plug hole wasn’t properly sealed. used sealant to fix.

alternator bust in only 25 engine hours. Wirings attached to alternator terminals were fried down to its top plastic housing. hopefully due for warranty

leaking fuel hose. this is potentially lethal. i spotted gas seeping out of the hose where it connects to the fuel tank from the filling hose while the boat is on an incline (bow up) so i try not to keep it that way when on the trailer but if you’re taking off in the water, it will definitely leak. any suggestions?

inconsistent fuel gauge. we all know this and Im not really hoping for anything but its only fair that tige address this.

broken tower bolts. this is the most remarkable damage to the boat where i can attest to the strength of the boat material. imagine 2 metal bolts broken in 2 while where the threaded half of the bolt is still intact in the thread hole. hopefully this wont happen again after i change the bolts but if it does it would be safe to assume that this would be a design flaw for the tower setup.

despite all this 'quality' issues, im really happy with the overall performance of the boat, engine, power, fuel consumption, wakesize and design.

    Dealer?

How is the dealer situation in the Philipines? The majority of those issues would have been found during the shake down ride with your dealer in the boat, with you, on it's first trip. They would have been fixed before you even took delivery. It's unfortunate you had any problems at all, but your dealer should be taking care of you.

I had the same issues below with my 2004 22V
      • Lots of factory debris in the hull. Screws, nuts, carpeting, fiberglass..
      • Damaged trailer from shipping
      • Cooler leaking because plug hole wasn’t properly sealed
      • Inconsistent fuel gauge (typical)

My dealer was very good at addressing most of my issues however, I hope yours does the same.

        Re: Dealer?

Where is the boat manufactured that sells in the Philippines?

Did you have to do all of the prep work ie: dewinterizing the engine, mounting the tower, etc? If that was done @ the dealer, I think they should have addressed all of these issues b4 you took delivery. Was is it manufactured in the US?

It sucks that you have had those problems.

By the way thanks for posting, I check out alot of these forums so i can learn what to look for and can proactively fix b4 having issues out on the water.

The debris in the bildge has always amazed me and it's funny how often it comes up. Is it really that difficult to give a kid a shop vac and have him clean that junk out of there before the boat leaves the factory?

Seems like a pretty simple solution to me and one that could prevent problems in the future...

i ordered from jv, a good friend also from the philippines last january 2004. we got the boats in from texas only last april 2005. if i only knew that it would have taken this long, i shoul have gotten the 2005 model instead of the 2004. jv's boat is already an '05 model with the new tower setup graphics, upholstery..

i guess you can say jv's the dealer but up to what extent am i suppose to be taken care of by my dealer when were actually helping each other out how to figure out everything that needs to be done to the boat? i had to figure out everything that needs to be done to the boat when it got in. i had to go through the manual thoroughly to make sure i did everything right, starting from de-winterizing it then i just share what i did with jv.

              i installed new ballast pumps,
              cleaned bilge pump clog,
              sealed cooler leak,
              installed the sounds setup,
              repaired broken board racks,
did the 20engine hours tune up,
              refurbished the busted alternator,
had the prop repaired and rebalanced,
replaced mounting screws on the tower base.
right now im due to change the water fuel seperator but dont know where its located in the engine.

it would really help if the manuals that came with the boat were more comprehensive in the diagrams just like the helms manual books for various autos and motorcycles. the manuals are insufficient, they dont even tell you what the switches in the boat are for nor where the circuit breakers are, had to trace this myself.
i could actually work for tige or be a dealer myself already with the amount of things im learning from dealing with my boat issues.
one thing im really concerned about is the leaking fuel hose. if you have the chance, check your boat for this by removing the back seats where you can see the v-drive where the hose filler meets the fuel tank while the bow is up. theres significant amount of fuel leakage. if anyone knows how to seal this, please advice.

              thank you.

                cooler leaking!!!

that has been the most annoying for sure...

I can't believe that has happened with other boats, it seams like such an easy thing.

I hope Tige is listening - these are very easy things to fix and would increase customer satisfaction quite a bit.

                A few from my list. 2004 20v
heater not working (has stopped twice now)
                cooler leaking
bimini top not fitting with standard boat cover - need to cut cover in order to fit.
winsheild mount mirror needs to be taken off when covering
