Lake Mead getting more water!

Basically, the Feds decided to release an extra 3.3 Million acre-feet of water this year from Powell. Projections are that this could raise the surface elevation of Mead by around 20 feet this year.

Still a long way to go from the 120 feet down that the lake was at in November...but it's a start!

Under the new agreements made they may be releasing more water from Powell also. The have what is called an "equalization agreement" Basically we run off reaches a certain amount it goes to Mead now. I also believe that under the new Law/Agreement Powell is there to back up Mead now ?

Great news! I'll have to start studying the shoreline and small islands now so I don't hit them later in the year when they are lurking a few feet under.

Yeah - it sure would be nice if they could install warning poles on top of every high spot now, so as the water rises they are marked. I'm sure it wouldn't take much - it's only one lake!

Of course, as the water continues to rise, then we'd be damaging props by hitting the warning poles.

Get out the handheld GPS and mark the islands. We did that when our lake was 18 feet low for those who were not familiar with the lake. An aquaintenance did that on lake Fork (bass lake only) marking unknown boat lanes and sold the card to fishermen so they wouldn't hit the stumps. Just follow the line on the screen. Made good money on it. There is an idea for you.

I say install rock bouys with retractable cable only so long as needed so that they go underwater once the waterlevel is safe for all boats, then pop back up as the water drops.
