    Packing not tighten

Maybe someone can help me. Took the boat out today only to find out I had a major leak coming from the packing around the shaft. The boat was used in a boat show this year so the dealer removed the prop shaft and rudder to display the boat, but when they reinstalled the shaft I am pretty sure the mechanics forgot to tighten the the hose clamps around the shaft.

My question is how tight do the hose clamps need to be that go around the shaft? My dealer is about a 3 hour drive away from me and I really don't want to drive all the way down just for them to tighten the clamps.

I posted a couple of pics showing which hose clamps are lose. The boat is a 2011 RZ2

It's been a few years since I adjusted the one in my Tige, but here some install instruction. There is also a video on the site.

Um hate to tell you this but it looks like the stainless collar that the seals off to the carbon ring is NOT there.you need to slide your hand up that shaft and see if its on there and just didnt get secured. If it is on there you need to slide it down until it touches the carbon ring the you press it down another 3/4in and tighten the set screws in the side of it. But if the stainless collar is not on the shaft then you are screwed and your boat is not safe to use.

To answer your original ?? the hose clamps would never need to come loose to take the running gear out.But the stainless colloar does so I would bet thats what they frogot to put back on.

Watch this vidoe and you will see the part I am talking about. They call it a stainless steel rotor or collar.

Thank you for the info kko. I already put my boat back in storage for the night, but I will go check tomorrow to see if the stainless steel rotor is on the shaft.

Most likely I will be making a trip to go see my dealer which is no big deal, but these days that gas is getting pricy it kind of hurts the pocket book.

I was taking the boat out for the maiden voyage today and after hopping back into the boat to back it off the trailer I notice the bilge pump was running which is not a good thing especially after the boat was only in the water for about 45 seconds.

I wouldnt mind doing the work myself if the rotor is on the shaft, but wow. There is not much room down there where the shaft is. I couldn't hardly get the camera all down there to take the pic.

Now you know what it's like for the mechanics that have to work on your boat. It's helpful to see what they have to deal with.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

I would PUSH for the dealer to send someone out for repair or pay for the gas to bring to them.
If its not fun, Why do it?

I want to thank everyone on helping me on this one and yes kko thats what the problem was. The stainless steel rotor was missing. I contacted my dealer and they came out to my house to fix the problem.

A big thanks to Joel and Randy from stateamind.
