In Need of a Cruise Control

My 2003 Tige 20v has no cruise control. It's so difficult to maintain speed especially when I have a wakeboarder cutting out and pulling the boat everywhich way. We have not even added any weight because i hear it is just even more difficult to maintain speed. I've look into buying a perfect pass but they are just so expensive. Is there any other alternative to this problem? Is it even possible to have a good ride without a cruise control? Anyone have a used one they would like to sell?

I've been pulling skiers on my dad's boat since i was 12 without perfect pass. I now have my own 99 2200i and we mostly pull wakeboarders without perfect pass. You just have to get used to always adjusting the throttle slightly and softly as you go. It's annoying at first but you get used to it. I would love to get PP but it's not happening this year.

I was told by a guy that pulled for competitions that you are better off pulling by rpm's rather than speed. Figure out what rpm gives you the speed you like and hold that during the pull. It gives a much better pull for the rider. Last but not least practice makes perfect :-)

That works for skiing but not with wakeboarding.

You just have to pay more attention to the speed and know how your boat reacts to certain wakeboarders. I always keep one hand on the wheel and one on the throttle. As soon as I notice the speed dropping I give it more throttle, and once I hit the speed I throttle back, eventually it will become second nature.

Also what speeds are you pulling at? Its usually easier to keep a constant speed at higher speeds as the boat is closer to being planed.

The perfect pass "cruise" model is more than adequate for all but competive skiers and boarders. It is the old non-gps based model that is very simular to operate as a cruise control in a car. I think they are about $600. I installed one myself in about 2-3 hours. Like the ad says, " its cheaper than marriage counseling". I belive it comes set up to run off of your speedo. I had problems with my hull mount speedo surging. One phone call and perfict pass and they sent me a chip to convert it over to rpm. No charge.
