yeah but if this happens for the dealer they would likely charge you more.

I have used PB blaster for many things but didnt think to use it for this.

Also on the Fram filters subject. Fram filters are pretty good filters. They are composed of the same materials as other filters of same performance rating (IE extra gaurd, tough gaurd, etc) The canister wall thickness maybe thinner but I am unsure. With as often as you (should) change your filter on your boat a Fram is not going to hurt your engine. Putting a high performance oil filter on a standard output engine such as the Mercury in my boat it is like putting race fuel in my boat. There is a lot less dirt and grime in a boating application, so less dirt is ingested into the engine. These filters are designed for pretty harsh conditions.

Don't worry Pro-Fab some people are easily swayed by what they read. The report discusses DIRTY oil.I like you change mine regularly therefore my filter only filters clean oil.Someone has to fall for the spin, that's why so many companies sell filters. In my 35 years of owning vehicles and well over 1,000,000 miles of driving i've never had any valve train noise or engine failures due to anything. So to me that's not even a maybe.I go by experience not what somebodys selling. And YES when someone does a report they are SELLING THEIR OPINION.Everyone has an opinion.I use logic and experience to make decisions.Good Luck with your future oil changes.

Never been a big fan of the hype machine that is Fram. yes its more about keeping things changed in a timely manner. But being in the repair bizz for as long as have I have seen every pitch from every company out there and they all pretty much say the same thing fram oil filter is inferior. We use Napa gold oil filters on all the boats and cars we work on. They are very well built with a very high capacity to store the filtered material. But I think we all agree no matter what filter the most important thing is to change it regular. Oh yeah and lube the seal. Robert hit the nail on the head the trick to getting those stuborn filters off is getting the strap wrench ALL the way to the top. I f you get it all the way to the top and add something to the handle for leverage it will comes off because you cant crush the top ring. Worked at one of the bussiest jiffy lubes in the country for a year way back when.200 plus cars a day I have wrestled with alot of oil filters and never met one I had to cut off like that. Granted in a boat you are much more pressed for space and getting a cheater bar on the oil filter wrench is tougher but it can be done.

I watched every video in that test.MY guess is he is an amsoil salesman. Why look at the views numbers on amsoil one versus others. Also he doesn't say one thing negative about it.Third at .021 it is the thickest housing and doesn't flex, but a .020 others have this thickness but have some flex.FOURTH the rubber drainback valve is the same design as on the fram [which he states is a loose fit]but on the amsoil filter it's good fit.these are the facts as i know them. My first Snap on truck was a CHEVROLET with a 454. I changed my oil every 2000 miles along with the filter.I used a mixture of A C DELCO and FRAM EXTRA GUARD FILTERS.I had 180,000 miles on it when i sold it.It ran great. There was another dealer who swore by AMSOIL[I personally think amsoil stuff is great]he changed his filter every 7500 miles sent in a oil sample and changed oil every 15000 miles unless otherwise directed by amsoil. He sold his truck at 140,000 miles and the guy that bought it had to put a motor in it within 10,000 miles. The moral of the story is change your oil often especially if you do it yourself.QUALITY OIL AND FILTER CAN'T BEAT CLEAN OIL AND FILTER.I was changing my oil 8 times as often as him and my filters 4 times as often.I would tell you what kind of oil i used, but thats another can of worms. If i haven't had any engine failures in over 1,000,000 miles why would i change.I don't predominantly use fram filters but i'm not scared to use them.

Yah I agree I have always used delco filters and always have good look. I wouldnt worry about a filter ablility to filter as Much as I would worry about a filter losing its fiber into your oil! I have had oil tested on a few of my race engines and never seem to have filter fiber in the oil from the delcos. THey have said they see alot of filter fiber in oil when they test oil samples

I've pretty much strictly used Fram since I can remember. All of my engines, until I got the Ford, had the same PH16 filter. I guess I always remembered the part number.

I've used Napa and Fram TG series on the Tige.

I also like the rubber grip on the Frams, then I never have to use a wrench.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

I used a strap wrench as high as it would go. there is a lip that portrudes lower than the ring of the filter. I pulled it hard enough that it crushed the filter about 1/4" below the base. pulled some more and started ripping the housing.

Any company who mass produces anything is going to have runs of products that are going to have issues. I am sure every other filter company has put out a few filters that were not 100%. Either way its like Mopar, Chevy, Ford. I like my Mopars and the rest of em like to work on their trucks... er I mean
