    thinking of 2000 tige 21i????

ive post another thread recently, and as im on the look for a wakeboard boat i just havent decided...
im looking at a 2000 tige 21i with TAPS...

So my questions are, how reliable are this type of boats? it has about 350 hours on the engine. Any known problems on this engine? or things i should specifically look for??

Also what is a fair price for a boat like this in great condition?? 15k??

Im currently debating between this and a 94 spor nautique ((i know its a total different breed but just for informational purposes)) and this tige... price on the tige seems to be a little more... Thanks in advance for all the input...

Oh im test driving it tomorrow so any quick responsed much appreciate it!! Thanks again...

If they are well maintained, they are bullet proof.

Is there an ad you can post up?

It looks in pretty good shape.I would still get someone familiar with boats to look at it if you are not.You can check NADA for used value and decide from there.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Looks pretty nice. Fair price for sure. It has the rare grey dash. That is also one of the best dashes Tige ever made. It has the better of the Metcrap towers. They are not great towers but, that is the best of that model. Let's us knowhow it drives.

That's another question, what do I look for while driving it?? All of my previous boats have been I/O so I've never driven a direct drive. I'm afraid to lose focus when feeling the difference between I/o and direct drive. So what should I expect (as normal) when driving it? What should I pay attention to??

            Thanks!!!

This is an awesome boat. I have been on my boat since new. The guy that owned it was one of my best friends. We did mostly skiing until 3 years ago. I have a good setup for wakeboarding and surfing. The only thing I have done is upgraded the stereo, beefed up the tower, added a FAE and a new prop for surfing.

You will want to inspect the tower joints for cracks. My boat has over 600 hours on it and still strong. I have a good spreadsheet of info if you buy it. If you have any other questions let me know.

The older models like that are built like tanks. Very good handling in rough water. Don't sound like they are coming apart like some do. If well maintained, should be a good boat. Low hours, we have over 600 on ours and it is used easy.

Yeah the spreadsheet would be good.

So can anybody advice me with the test drive? This would be my first direct drive (coming from I/O) and I don't want to be misleaded when feeling the difference between the two. What do I look for? What's normal? What's not??

So you all think that price is fair then?

Remember inboards have no steerage in reverse. All you have is backwards and right. Think 5 o'clock direction.

Listen/feel for vibration when running on forward and reverse. Signs of a bent shaft/prop.

Oil condition/color. Milky, run away, or negotiate a smoking deal if you can change out an engine.

Steering stiffness. Try the steering at different speeds. Avoid power turns, they are for dorks. However quite fun.

Oil pressure, water temp. However I can't tell you what oil pressure mine runs at, water temp usually is around 140-150.

BTW. I test drove a '93 Sport Nautique and then the Tige', guess which one I bought.

What made you pick the tige over the Nautique? Major differences?

I'm also doing a compression test, are the plugs easy to reach on these engines??

It will take about about 5 seconds of riding in the Tige after the riding in the 'Tweek to know why there is no comparison. If you like your fillings to remain in your head, you will end up with the Tige. Also the comfort just from the size. Nautweeks, small boats for small people.

Super easy. Not sure about HP. I would think 295 or so at the shaft would be outstanding for a 350Mag 315.
