We put ours on the sides at the rear of the boat. Mostly just because that is how my family has always done it and I'm one for keeping up traditions. Across the stern is also universally accepted.

So far as luck, I feel you should always name a boat, regardless of length.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

      Boat Naming:
Gotta do it. I did the ceremony listed above while the boat was on the trailer before first launching. My brother in law chimed in with a soulful reciting of the boat launching poem done by Judge Smails from Caddy Shack. I then broke a bottle of Champagne to christen, BUT NOT BY HITTING THE BOAT WITH THE BOTTLE, I put the bottle in a baggie thing, rested it gently against the lifting rings below the swim platform, THEN HIT THE THE BOTTLE/BAG with a HAMMER. The bottle broke in the bag, the glass stayed in the bag, nothing hit the boat. Libations were then had by all.

HERESY: I removed the big TIGE sticker on the transom and had a custom sticker made (yes, I'll post a picture--it's on my other computer) and it looks quite sharp.
