    Dealer cost site (sorta)

Did anyone catch this when it was up on Wakeworld?

    http://www.seedealercost.com/boats

Tige was apparently on there, but has now disappeared off of it. I know alot of people always wonder how to buy a boat and what percentage off of msrp to shoot for. This would have been a great tool. While it doesn't list Tige anymore, it still can be good a decent research tool. I've always kind of been under the assumption that dealer cost was somewhere between 20% to 30% of MSRP. Which if you think about it, by the time we beat them up, their profit margin isn't jack, considering they gotta kiss our A$$e$ for 2-4 years after buying the boat.

I saw that and had bookmarked it. I did go through and look at the Tige information but like you said it is not there anymore. To be so secretive to me seems fishy. Kind of like the deal that is being offered right now and has to de done right now and you do not have time to think about it.

I sent them an email. I will see what they have to say.

Did you mean 20-30% below MSRP?

Anyway, nah, I didn't see it.

I saw it and used it to compare my new deal on a RZ2.The list of options weren't complete and they didn't include trailers. Also shipping, floor plans, taxes ect,You can use percentages if you want, but everything is driven by the market and time of year.Alot of factors come into play, but from what i've seen most tige dealers are eager to do business with you.

This site was started by two X employees from Brunswick and Yamaha, they also will not state who is the real money behind this site. I checked the Tige pricing and it was not correct. The auto industry is setup for online sites like these with their hold backs, rebates, special incentives, low rate financing, volume in sales and service, etc. The marine industry will never be like the auto industry, we are just too small of a market.

Like Robert stated, I think most dealers in today's market are wanting to work with you to get you and your family on the water.

I agree with your all's assessment of dealers wanting to work with you. I just think some people have no clue where to even begin.

The big thing most don't realize is there's pricing tiers that dealers buy at, unless the economy has done away with that. While dealer X may buy a boat from Tige for $55K, Dealer Y may get that same boat for $60K. That allows Dealer X more wiggle room. I guess like everything, it's about buying power.

Tanner I guess that was true several years ago when some dealers were stocking 20+ boats of one brand at a time. Now, in today's market with little flooring options, not so true.I bet more than 75% of the dealers in the US right now are using GE for flooring their inventory, not by choice with their rates they are charging us and the mfg's right now.

You know what burns my @$$.................a flame about this high

Seriously, not calling anyone out here, but over on WW, I see so many people feel insulted that the dealer wants to profit from the new boat sale. But when said buyer goes to sell that same boat 5 yrs later, he feels its worth the MSRP it had at the time of buying.

Last I checked, most people who own boats are hard working people. This means they draw a paycheck or income of some kind. In other words, you are making a profit off the goods (your time and skills) you provide to your employer. I dont know anyone that seeks out a job that at best, they break even on thier bills with 0 left over. Most look to make more then they need to cover the basics and have some left over for........lets say, oh I dont know.........own a boat

also, keep in mind that the difference between what the dealer paid for the boat and what you bought it for is called "gross Profit" and doesnt go directly into his pocket. Once he pays out all those costs of doing business, you'd be surprised how much he really made off you.

                  From Wikipedia:
In accounting, gross profit or sales profit is the difference between revenue and the cost of making a product or providing a service, before deducting overhead, payroll, taxation, and interest payments. Note that this is different from operating profit (earnings before interest and taxes).

That's why I posted what I did over there. You can't expect these dealers to survive on break even pricing and boats are not cars which is where I think people get confused. In the auto industry, it's ok for a dealer to only make $1k off of a car because they are selling hundreds, sometimes thousands per month whereas a boat dealer is only selling as little as say 20 per year!

I agree with all of this. I see no problem with a dealer making $10-$15k off me. Hell I won't touch a home for less than 20% (alot of cost plus guys will undercut me at 14-16%). What I do see a problem with is those builders who try and make $30-$40k off you. I once had a dealer shoot me $20k over what my current dealer was quoting me on a custom build

Sounds like even if you knew cost on the boat you still wouldn't know where to begin.Look at Threads on here and you will see used boats of the same model year sell for different prices.Different reigons have different markets.Dealers don't have every boat equipped the same.A RZ2 for example is a base price of 66290.00.It could be optioned out to list for 110,000.00 to 115,000.00.The base boat doesn't even have Ballast or a Tower.I'm sure they are options you want.It also doesn't come with a stereo. Most dealers will order them with those options though.Since you are so close to the factory, you could take a tour. Then ask some questions and get some answers.I don't think Tige is hiding anything, you just need to ask them directly.Hope you can find peace of mind like i did.Happy Boating.
