    T.A.P.S. not working

I just purchased a 2006 tige 22Ve from a private owner. When we tested the TAPS system it worked fine. Yesterday when we went out to the lake it just made a clicking sound. Any ideas on what it may be? By the way I have been dreaming of this boat for years.

Welcome to the site. Post some pics of your boat.

I don't know why it would be clicking but I have know the rams to fail, they were older though.

Theres a relay under the dash ,that is the most common failure, it is normally located just in front of the shifter in that year and is black about 2 inches square.

Start with doms idea. If that doesn't work, did you disconnect the wires from the battery? If so, check to see if one of the smaller wires didn't get connected.

Most auto part stores have these relays.

Welcome to the site, JonG. I hope to see you out at the lake sometime. I am in St. George also. There are a number of us from the area who are active on the site.

Good luck with the TAPS. My buddy is working through the same problem with his 2006 24Ve. His is hydraulic, and has been a complicated troubleshooting problem for him.

Sometimes a gentle tap with a hammer on the piston helps if it is just bound up. Had the boat been sitting for a long time?
              Be excellent to one another.

Welcome aboard John. I am not sure if yours is hydraulic or not but if so check the pump. I had my pump tip over leaking out the fluid. whiched caused this same type of noise for me.

Yep. My old 21V had the same problem. It clicked and it was the relay. Good luck.

Figured out what my problem was today. There was a pinched wire at the throttle handle. Thanks to all who gave ideas. Getting excited for summer.

Not trying to be argumentative, but those auto shop relays are completely different. I searched high and low for a replacement when mine went bad. I did figure out how I could use 2 auto relays to accomplish the same thing, but in the end it seemed too jerry-rigged on such a big investment. The relays are like $175ish from Tige, so I still haven't replaced mine.

If I'm wrong, I'd love to have the part # to the relay that will work as the original black box Tige relay works.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Check for shorted wires coming out of the shifter handle.
