We use the quick turn method as well. I have caught a roller or two over the bow, but it usually when the driver was paying attention to something else. So if your driving, stay alert, that generally solves most problems. I tell new drivers that if they are in doubt, they can always power through the wake. Not the best but it does work.

I assume when your pulling someone, you use the key hole turn method to get back into the water you just came thru?

When I bought my boat, the owner, who used to be a pro wakeboarder, spent time with us on the water. His method is to slow to neutral, put the boat in reverse for a moment (to let the waves pass) and then turn back to pick up. Of course, you need to use judgement based on the amount of boat traffic at the time...

Yes, but if you let the rollers go by, it is not really that necessary. You just want to return to your downed rider at a no wake speed.

Now if there is another boat, or PWC coming towards your rider, feel free to use whatever driving method protects your downed rider the most.

I found the article in Waterski Magazine that gave me some pointers years ago. I agree with draginass. You have to adapt your driving to the conditions around you, and forget about rollers or anything else but your rider.

TeamAllen Great article, loved the crash section.

Crashes: Ask the skier if he or she would prefer that you return quickly after a crash or slowly to minimize rollers and to allow him time to recuperate from his fall. If asked to return quickly, spin the boat and pull back on the throttle immediately after the fall, then idle back to the skier. This method avoids trailing rollers on the return.
