    Adding ballast.....

    Hey all. I have done some research, including checking out Ragboys Wake9 site, but wanted to ask here for any additional tips. I have a 2007 24Ve with factory ballast and want to add more. I really started getting into wakesurfing more than boarding last season, and it quickly became clear that I need WAY more ballast to make a good free-rideable wake.

    Has anyone on here added to the factory ballast on their boat? I am thinking I will just add a 750lb fat sac to each side and call it a day, but am curious if that size bag will fit with the factory ballast in place. Also, what are the best options for pumps? Can I tie this into my existing intake/pumpout system and just add a pump per bag?? If not, I was thinking about eliminating the front ballast and possibly using that system to feed the new sacs. Is that doable?? Never done any ballast work, so I am sorry if I am asking some simple and or stupid questions. Any input is much appreciated!!

    chpthril would be the closest expert on surfing. he's in N.C. but can ship custom surf sacs to you.It won't be hard to find one of his posts.he has helped lots of tige owners with stereo and ballast installs.
    I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

        Started to post a reply and saw your PM. Havent read it yet, but let me answe a few questions here for any one reading.

        The 22Ve puts out a great wake, but like most other tow boats, it needs ballast.

        I just did a conversion in Jborts. We pulled the factory hard tank and put in a custom. it was not hard, but is involved. To add a sac to the existing ballast system, do a search for Matt's ballast setup. IIRC, he added to is. I think he ran the over-flow from the tank to the sac, or vise verse. For draining, you will need to add a dedicated pump to the new sac. Reason being is that the sac and tank are on the same level, so gravity will not be your friend here.

        IMP, I think the W705 seat bottom sac. It is only 10" high and stretches 60" and should net you 600+. The W707 is 20" high, but most of that height will be restricted by the height of the under-seat and will not fill to its rated capacity.

        No. You would have to rebuild the factory manifold to add another pump to it. You best option is to install a 1" thru-hull and "T" for the 2 new fill pumps.

        If all you do is surf, using the bow sac's fill pumps is an option. But, running with or without bow weight it a whole nother thread

          Curious what the outcome was on this one.

          I have a 2005 24V with hard ballast throughout and also want to add weight for surfing. I was just going tie to the existing system, but wanted to see if it works. My thoughts were to:

          1. Sit the new fat sac (Looking at W701 for $139 at 400lbs) on top of the hard tank in the rear locker.
          2. Run the overflow hose from the existing hard tank to the fat sac fill.
          3. Put a hose from the new fat sac overflow to the port on the side of the boat. Creating a CHAIN of ballast tanks.

          My hopes are that when filling, the hard ballast fills first and the overflow goes to the sac, when the sac overflows, it draings out the boat.

          When emptying, the pump pulls from the hard ballast first, the sac then drains down to the hard ballast as it empties throught the overflow hose that connects them.

          Sound workable?

            Piggy-backing a sac on top of a tank is pretty straight forward and in most cases, works perfect.

            I would maybe suggest one minor change. I would consider taking the fill hose off the tank and routing it to the top of the sac. This now has the water filling the tank via gravity rather then being forced of tank through the overflow into the sac. I think this would reduce the head-pressure on the pump, resulting in a faster fill time.

                I'll add comments and pics of the wave results of Mike's install work after we get boat launched which is now planned for next weekend. Been busy and water is kinda cold but real excited. jb

                  i posted about a week ago concerning passive draining of my stock hard .its plumbed with vent from stock tank to inlet on bag and reconnected to original vent. planned on adding check vale at inlet thinking (backflow through pump) but also experience sputter and spray through vent when hard tank is filling the sac. LIKE CHPTRIL SAYS PULL FILL LINE OFF TANK AND FILL SAC FIRST, WITH GRAVITY BACKFLOWING TO TANK SHOULD ALEVIATE ALL THE PROBLEMS AND SPEED UP FILL TIME (GREAT IDEA CHPTHRIL )
