I'm looking at purchasing my first home and realize that being able to play close to home is essential. So I've narrowed it down to a few places where we are looking. I have done a ton of research, but would love some personal insight from anyone who lives in the areas or visits them.
Area #1: Discovery Bay, CA. Having water in you back yard is priceless, but my per approval is limited, and I would be limited to living on the lake (which doesn't allow motorized boats). The marina would be very close however, but my boat wouldn't be in the water in my back yard. And the Delta has provided the best water I have ever skied on.
Area #2: Auburn, CA area (possibly Lake of the Pines). I love the foothill feeling, and love the fact of owning 1 acre or more of land. LOP would be great to have your own private lake, but it looks small and could get quite crowded. LOP also seems to have A LOT of CC&Rs which really deter me from wanting to live there. It would be nice to wake up ski the course, pull the boat out and have breakfast. HOAs are a bit $$ to.
Area #3: This is a new area we just started looking into so any info would be nice. Pilot Hill, CA. We found an amazing house here and am starting to do some research on the area, so again any info would be appreciated.
I haven't put my boat on Lake Folsom, but I have been out on a friends Hobie Cat. It was windy and choppy and ugly (but great on a sail boat). How is the water? Is there a water ski course. I'd be on the Salmon Falls finger. Is there a boat ramp at the north end of the finger...? It looks like there is one on google maps (just as Salmon Falls Rd. crosses the finger), but I can't find any further information on it.
I do have a Realtor in Disco Bay, but want to do more research in the other areas, before I jump ship and start looking else where. I know all these area's are out in the sticks, but currently I telecommute and I truly feel living where you play keeps you happier in the long run. And again any thoughts would be appreciated.
