    1996 Tige 2000

    Hi There all you Tige-lovers!

It could be that I might be a tige owner myself soon, however, before buying anything, I am hoping you experts can share some advise with me.

I found a 1996 Tige 2000 with the original 350 inboard with 1150 hrs on it. The boat looks and runs excellent and the one owner seems to have taken very well care of it (he just bought a brand new tige). The sale price for this baby is $7000. http://www.lodiparkandsell.com/index...vehicle_id=796

Any comments or advise on this one? I am hesitant on buying this boat because 1150 hrs is quite a bit. I have always driven regular runabouts and currently own a stingray with only 400 hrs. However, I like to get a better boat for sking and tubing and my little stingray just isn't made for that. I like this tige boat but .... is it risky?

Any food for thoughts are appreciated and welcomed. Thank you!!!

It seems at first glance that the boat is in great shape. So, if it runs well, how much risk can there be in a $7,000 inboard? I know this: there aren't too many boats in good shape out there for a price like that. They just don't come around too often.

Check it out like you would check out any used boat I would think. Get a compression test done, ask for maintenance records, have a mechanic look it over. Check out the strut bearing and all over the hull for marks, blisters, etc.

I would rather a boat this age have a decent amount of hours on it rather than having it had sit and deal with rotting seals and the like.

That boat will produce such a sweet slalom wake it isnt funny.

If you are interested in wake boarding or surfing is in your future, you might consider whether this will be a short term investment or perhaps look at another model.

I have to say from the pictures, that is one nice looking boat!

      Good Luck!

the pictures look very good. a good marine mechanic, preferably one familiar with tige's could look it over and tell you wether or not it's a good investment.i would surely get it checked out hull/motor/prop shaft ect.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Your going to find a better ski wake for that price. Dont be afraid of the hrs as long as it was taken care of.

That looks like its in great shape!! It's hard to think that they would take such good care of the appearance, and not the mechanical portion. We have been thinking about selling ours, but for what others are asking, we might have to think twice about our price. However, the market is a whole different ball game up here in Canada.

As long as it is mechanically sound, you're not going to find a better 7k boat. Like Ship said, rarely will you get someone who takes such good care of the appearance and not the mechanicals. They usually go hand in hand. While 1150 hours seems like a lot, it ain't that bad. That's 82 hours per season. Do you have any idea how many thousands of hours are on my truck? It's only got 100k+ on it. 80+ hours can easily be done by someone who has the desire and means to go skiing every weekend. You need a good, reliable boat to do that though. It's pretty tough to put 80 hours on a boat per season if it's constantly in the shop.

So, is it risky? Pretty tough to get yourself in trouble for 7k. So long as it remains well maintained, I can't see that boat being worth less than that for a long time.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I've seen total POS jallopies for that price. It's the price that does it for me. What is there to loose? And, that is a Tige, classic model!

I'd say grab it. I paid the same price for my '94 2000slm two years ago. I however had to put a new engine in mine, but that was totally my fault for not checking the dipstick.

$7000 was below market value for the boat. You've got a better trailer that I do too.

By the way, test drive it! (and check the dipstick afterwards, make sure the oil is still clear and not milky)
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

The pictures are a bit small, but it looks like a well taken care of boat. I know the teak decks are hard to keep up, but I'm a little curious as to why the owner would let the condition of that teak go that far (especially if he's selling it).

I purchased mine for a bit more but only 450 hours (though the dealer was desperate to unload it).

X2 ask for the maintenance records. With that many hours, I'd make sure to take it out on the lake before buying it though, just to make sure there are no surprises. Check the condition of the wood stringers, also take the back seat out and pull up the middle floor board to check out the condition near the packing seal (should be dry and no sign of water film or oil). Press on the wood floor and make sure there are no soft spots.

And don't forget to thoroughly check over the trailer!
