I love my Z409 6.0L PCM! Main reason I got it was because of the engine design. The 409 is based on GM's Gen 3 engines (LS Family) while the 343 uses the older GM Gen 2,(vortec)engine design.

Main differences that influenced my decision were:

-The 409 uses individual coil packs instead of a distributor.
(no moving parts and no chance for water condensation)
-The 409 does not have water crossover ports in the heads.
(reduces the chance of water getting in the engine)

I'm sure there are many other valuable design improvements but those two were enough to make the decision for me quite easy.

My fuel usage is great, power comes on smooth, and is very quiet!

Good luck, and I hope this info helps you to make an informed decision and feel confident in your engine choice

The camera is sweet. Makes a nice rearview mirror, and is great for filming.

It does not record sound, but it comes with a CD Software for your computer so when you take the memory card out you can put the video on you comp. and cut, edit and create your own movie for sharing. Pretty sweet IMO.

Not to mention at this time no aftermarket camera is made for the Alpha Z Tower. So if you dont mind waiting for one to be made no big deal but if you want it now go with the factory ordered option.

Went back to the boat show today and talked with Tony (Great tip btw). We got everything sorted out for EXACTLY the boat we wanted. Talking with him directly settled any concerns I had.

Boat is now being ordered for immediate production

Ended up only going with the Surf ballast. Got the camera. Stayed with the 5.7L. Picked up FAE as well.

        Can't wait for spring!

Rickd - just saw your post. That is some good info. My Trans Am has the LS1 (added supercharger) and it is a killer motor. I'm surprised the 5.7L is the older generation actually. Gen III has been around since 1997.

The torque number on the 343 is what sold me. 430 ft# !!!

Get on Wake9's site if you haven't already and see photos of his boat,Navy/white with the white tower, one of my favorite combos.

Also, got on Wake9 and buy his Alpha Z version of his surf nubbin. It doesn't cost much but is much better for pulling beginner surfers. Surf ballast is the best choice, because then, like I did (or my wife for Christmas), you can call up chpthrl and get his custom surf sac to swap out with that triangle sac in the rear locker.

Yes Tony is awesome, and a major reason i as well bought the Tige. He came to austin just to take me on the water and resolve issues I had on a previous water test. Congrats on the new boat.

I saw his boat and it looked pretty awesome. That is what sold me on the white tower. I made some minor changes to what he had done. I liked the white pocket inserts too. Tony also agreed to customize the seats a bit to cut down on the navy behind your knees (I hate burning the back of my legs!)

As for the surf nubs, seems like a good idea. Then again, remember my 'wild west' frame of reference was surfing behind an I/O!! So anything is an improvement here

ps - for what it's worth, the Larson had a swim platform.
