I am going to have to find a 22Ve to crawl around in and demo. This migh be a problem with the dealer situation, but maybe someone on this site lives in Nor-Cal? I am in the Sacramento area.

Strange question and I am not steering you away from Tige but what is wrong with your Supra? They are nice boats! Just want something new?

If this is the case, why not try out a Z1? You can still get great features like Tige Touch and pay much less. People on this website have raved about the surfwake that the Z1 can throw.

The Z1 in this area is going to be extremely hard to find someone so he can view the boat. The dealer that was here only sold 1 that I know of 1-2 years ago and they do not post on this form. However, there are a few 22Ve people from around here on this forum.

Exactly, That's why I stated that the Z1 matches up better in size to the VLX. I don't care what the placard says, the VLX is not a 14 passenger boat. I just sold my 2009 VLX and it was rated for 11, but it still best fits our needs over a 23 or 24 LSV.

The Supra has been a great boat, but I am looking for a better surf boat, different seating configuration, color change, updated ballast technology (ie: Tige touch).

How is the VLX not a 14 passenger boat? Its the same size as an X-15, and the X-15 is rated for 14 people as well. It states on the website it is a 14 passenger boat, but maybe they made a mistake??? The coastguard sticker in the boat (VLX) does say 14 passengers.

The RZ1 is just too small for my family, the VLX is about as short of a boat as I would buy. It needs have a 14 person seating capacity, the 22Ve is in direct line in pricing with the VLX which I could swing. The 22Ve is also a little wider and longer than the VLX.

I may have to fly down to Los Angelas at the end of next week to take one out for a demo. Unless I can locate someone in the Sacramento/Nor-Cal area to visit.

I dont think you would enjoy any 21 or 22ft boat with 14 passengers! Our choice came down to a Z1, 22ve and MC X-15. The MC was $9k over our 22ve and the reason we chose the Ve over the Z1 is my wife loved the color of our Ve.

My next boat will be someones used 2010 or 2011 Z1. I have a feeling it will throw a better surf wake with less weight.

You put 14 people in a VLX and you are not going to have a comfortable day, I believe Tige is being more realistic with their seating capped at 10 on the Z1.It was rated at 11 in 08. My Brother bought a 2010 VLX, Beautiful boat but in my opinion it will not comfortably hold any more passengers than mine. It seemed as if the VLX's extra 6" of length was in the bow seating to me.
Good luck in your search! Test Drive them all and buy the one that best fits your needs
For me it was the Z1

I've got a better question, who wants to put 14 people on any tow boat. I can't think of 14 people that my wife and I both like that much that we would want to spend the day with that many people all on one boat. I don't care about a couple of extra inches of beam or a couple of feet extra in length. That is simply a ton of people, all bringing their own issues and creating much stress for the driver/host.

i agree with you wallacmc. i do okay with 5 to 7 ,but more people equals more stress and less room to move around.also depending on how many people are riding less smooth water time for the most important rider ME.everyone is different though.

Read my first reply...for 2009 and 2010 the VLX was rated for 11 passengers. This year the rating is 14 people with no change in the hull or interior layout...yes I've seen the website and have been in a 2011 boat. I'm not saying it is accurate for 11 or 14, but it's not as big of a boat as any of the 22' Tiges or 23' Malibu's. I loved my VLX and have just ordered a new one! If there had been a Tige dealer in NC in 2009 I may have been in one today.

What is a RZ1??? Are you referring to the R20 or RZR....these are 20' boats with a 94" beam. Yes I've looked at these too and they are very nice boats, but too small for our needs. Good luck with your VLX demo.

Fman stated on WW that he plans to have 6-10 out with him.

Edit - I'm not trying to argue, but trying be realistic in comparing different makes and models. That's what I liked about having the Boat Buyers Guide that Wakeboarding Mag in print. It had more specifications than the manufacturers put on the sites, such as sq. footage of the cabin, bow, swim platform, etc. I still have the magazine from '09 and I think Malibu was more realistic then rating the VLX at 11 and the LSV23 at 13. I guess from a marketing standpoint they changed this year to match up closer to what other manufactures are claiming.

I hate having lots of people on the boat too, but when you have kids, it really makes their day if you can take them and a bunch of friends to the lake. My 17 year old daughter asked if I could take her and her friends to the lake one Saturday. So I packed up my wife and 3 other kids, plus 12 of her friends...18 of us in all. I do not want to do it again, but it has been something that they all talk about wanting to do again, and it let me get to know the people she is hanging out with. And I think it was worth it because it is not unusual for them to all decide to come to our house to hang out some Saturday nights. As far as lake time, it was just work for me, and only a little bit of fun. But they all enjoyed the music and just cooling off in the lake when it is 100+ degrees out.

This was just the bow...but you can see relationships were forged in a way that I could never do just being a creepy dad at home.
