I am interested in purchasing a 2006 Tige but was wondering if it would be beneficial to make the purchase in AZ instead of CA to save money on taxes and registration. Is this possible or true?

So what David says is what i was trying to say. If you buy in Arizona and register in CA , CA will charge you sales tax and you will pay the 1% annually as personal property tax. If you buy in Arizona and register in Arizona, you will pay arizona sales tax and the higher registration fee but no CA personal property tax. It was cheaper for me to register in AZ and not pay the 1% annual personal property tax. If you buy a used boat in AZ and register in AZ you do not pay sales tax. I know Nevada just changed the law on used vehicles stating you must buy private party to avoid sales tax. Not sure in AZ though
You will pay the 7.5% to 8.25% sales tax if you buy a new boatLet it be!!!

Tennessee does not tax personal property, with the exception of real estate. I pay to register my boat and thats it, same with my automobiles, I just pay $65 per year for tags.
Plus, we don't pay state income tax, either! If life is a waste of time, and time is a waste of life, then let's all get wasted together and have the time of our lives.

TN does also tax out of state purchases on cars. I bought my truck in Atlanta because they had what I wanted. There were no add-ons when I bought the truck. Then I registered the truck in TN. That first registration was a whopping $1700.00+ as I had to pay the local sales tax.
I only pay $24.00 per year per vehicle for vehicles purchased in state and for renewals for my vehicle registrations.
The boats only have to be registered with TWRA and that is not a whole lot of money. There is no vehicle registration or trailer registration required for TN.Ray Thompson

I pay the CA sales tax and then:
Am I paying the personal property tax in CA?
or just a Annual reg fee in AZ?
Do I save when buying in CA but reging in AZ?

If you want to register in AZ and you bought from a dealer, you have to pay sales taxes - even if you bought used. The only way to get out of paying a sales tax is if you buy from an individual. I went through this last year when I bought my boat in Texas and registered it here.Nostalgia isn't what it used to be

You will pay Ca Sales Tax
You will not pay the 1% annual california personal property tax which on a $50,000 boat is $500 year
You will pay AZ registration which currently is $106 /yr on a 24 foot boat. After 8/31/05 the annual registration fee for non residents is $259.
Trailer registaration in AZ is $125 lifetime. In California its $25 for 5 yrs
I paid sales tax in NV. I registered boat in AZ (Arizona just ensures you paid sales tax somewhere)
Registered trailer in CA
No CA persornal property tax
Assuming 50K for boat i saved 394 dollars in year one. Next year with the increased registration fee will be saving about $240.
My primary home is in California, with a 2nd home in Lake Havasu. To be considered a resident you need a AZ drivers license.
Let me know if you need anything else.Last edited by xpjim1; 07-22-2005, 04:49 PM.Let it be!!!
