    TAPS Plate!

I was wondering if anyone had tried or thought to try adding a larger taps plate on an i drive tige?
I love to slalom and my 04 21i is a good boat but the wake she puts off even with the plate all the way down is still a good challenge to cross. I know others have spoken of installing a ballast in the bow but would'nt a larger plate like the wakesetter has push the butt of the boat up as well any input would be cool thx!

What plate on the wakesetter? Are talking about the Wedge?

I would try adding a 1/4" of additional travel to the plate first

What setting are you running the plate at currently?
Normally the best setting is 1.5 to 2, fully down causes a trough to form in between the wake and makes it rough to cross.
Also what line length are you running , I run 15 to 22 off at 32mph and find the wake to be soft , my boat is a 20i 2004, but ive been behind a 2005 21i and found it to be equally good.

Agreed, 15 to 22 off is the sweet spot and at 34mph the wake is even smaller on my 22v. I think at some point you will reach a diminishing return.

How do you add the additional travel and can this be done with any taps system? By adding the additional travel for the up position versus the down position can this increase the shaping / size of the wake?

Adding a spacer between the ram and the plate will get you more down, but more up would be a bit more difficult. You would need a ram with a longer stroke.

The more you push the plate done , the bigger the gully between the wake gets , and that makes a good bump when you cross, thats why 1.5 to 2 on the trim makes a nice flat crossing point.

Do you mean 15 to 22 feet of rope length? That seems incredibly short to me.

I think they are talking about taking 15-22' Off a 75' rope

A normal ski rope has 5 , different color links in the line, when we say 15 or 22 off we hook the rope to the ski pole at a different link dependent on what length you want to ski the coarse at , I run 15 off a 75 foot line at 32 mph, but im an amature, your more experenced people run a lot shorter .

running the stock 75ft rope off the pylon. haven't looked into adding travel to it and yes the plate one the wakesetter is a wedge type friend of mine has an 07 v-drive and the wake behind it for skiing is really smooth.

But you don't use the wedge for skiing.

I ski at 15 off and this year went form 32 to 34 mph. Huge reduction in wake size at the faster speed. On my boat I set taps at 1.5 for the best wake. I have thought about riviting a larger plate to the bottom of the taps plate for more surface area. I know some peaple add balast to the nose when skiing, I have not found this helpful on my boat , but it is something to try.
