This may be a semi hijack, if so I apologize. The handle that you have, is that an option or factory standard for the Ve? I could not remember if I had a handle or not and had to get home and check but my 2007 Ve does not have a handle. I wondered why it does not have one. Those that have them, do they get used much? Is it worth putting one on? It has been a while since I was out on the boat but it seems that it would be quite a stretch to reach the handle from the water over the fiberglass swim deck.

I meant to also tell you that your boat is sweet looking. I really like the striping on the trailer that matches the boat. It makes it pop.

        Yes, it's factory.

The boat is so new that I can't say how much it will get used. I too thought it seems like a long ways from the rear of the swim deck to the handle. It's a lot farther than on my existing boat. On that boat the handle gets used all the time, but its swim deck is almost a foot off the water's surface and you need a ladder to get onto it. That's not true with the 24Ve so I don't know if the handle will be as critical.

After figuring out the mounting arrangements, I'm definitely proceeding with the purchase. I haven't yet contacted them about a group buy. You and I make two. Let's start a separate thread asking the specific question and see how many people respond.

EDIT: Thread started, we'll see how many come back!

Id be willing to build you all this handle out of solid 321 stainless that wouldnt need anymore holes drilled!

Would it look something like this, with a tow ring in the center?

I worry about the lateral stress of using just endbolts. As the rope starts pulling, there will be a inward force on the endbolts and the transom. As discussed earlier, this lateral stress can actually exceed the force pulling on the rope due to mechanical leverage. The extra bolts solve this problem, which I suspect is why the other handles all seem to use them.

I'm interested, though - can you provide a photo, drawing, or description of what you're thinking?

Id rather you all tell me what you would rather have. I have 4 holes now on my handle do you not ?

We have just "handles". A curved bar with a single "bolt" on each end that has a single hole through the transom with a backing plate, washer, and nut. My handle, and that of others, is 16 inches wide. Therefore any centered load will be borne by two bolts on 16 inch centers, with lateral stress based on leverage.

Integrated ring/handles are as shown in the photo: A handle with bolts at its ends, with a tow ring in the middle having its own two bolts. Total of four bolts and four holes. Think of a standard tow ring welded into the middle of a handle that has a section removed from the middle to accommodate the tow ring without adding width to the handle's original mounting holes.

Send me pics of your handles so I can see what you got going. Mine is a 03 and attaches with 4 bolts. I can build some designs in sold works and test the strentgh of them with it!

My boat is in storage so it is inconvenient to get a photo tonight, but here is a stern shot of my boat from last fall:

You can see it's a relatively simple handle, no fancy cross sections or anything. The factory says it's a "16 inch handle" which I presume means the mounting bolts are on 16 inch centers, but I will confirm that before any manufacturing begins. Let's presume 16 inch centers for your modeling work.

I'd like a handle that mounts like my current one, but has a three inch tow ring in the middle with the customary prong for rope retension like this one:

Let's see what you can come up with!

That would be added easy. Buy a standard Ring stainless of coarse and send me your bar and the ring and Ill build you a thicker handle and send a back plate that strechs the 22 inches on the instide that the bolts go through for added displacement of the force.

How do you figure 22 inches? The holes are approximately 16 inches apart. Adding a three inch ring would make that distance ~19 inches.

Also, while I would love a single large backing plate, it won't work because it is not a planar surface. There is a piece of Starboard in the middle that currently supports the battery isolator. A single wide backing plate wouldn't sit flush against the transom on the two outer bolts. It will require three backing plates - one on each end, and a third in the middle which will rest against the Starboard piece that is glassed to the transom.

the 22 inches would be the backing plate on the inside of the boat to allow more surface area to displace the stress the outside handle would be the same length. Get me some pics of the inside and so forth your boats alot different then! Anything can be made
