    Prop puller questions

I am looking at a prop kit with all the tools and a case to store my spare prop. Scroll down to the bottom of this link below.

    http://www.acmemarine.com/our_props.php

What is the difference between a harmonic puller and c-clamp puller? I am new to inboards and am unfamiliar with a harmonic puller. The pic on the right shows a c-clamp style which I know what it is and how it works.

Is one better then other? Why?

    Thank you

The Harmonic requires the use of a hammer. It works by threading on to the prop shaft after the removal of the nut, then striking the face of the Harmonic tool in order to vibrate the prop off the tapered prop shaft.

Ive used both, and IMO, the C-clamp is the easiest to use unless you are comfortable slinging a 10lb hammer at the bottom of your boat.

I still had to hit the C clamp with a hammer a number of times, so I don't think it completely takes out the need for a hammer.
      Be excellent to one another.

I had better luck with the harmonic tool.

For when you are at the Trinity - make sure you bring a spare air, weight belt and a dive mask so you can change upstream...
If its not fun, Why do it?

True, and you can crank on the Harmonic puller all day long with a box-end wrench and the prop ain't gonna budge.

I've used the harmonic and it took a quite a few wacks and some heat to get the old stainless one off. I would have preferred to have the c-clamp style, but my budget is tight.

                Dave,
Make sure you read what you are getting. The C-clamp was about $70 bucks more when I bought mine.

Joe is correct, the C-clamp, which ACME calls the "Traditional Puller" is more then the Harmonic.

The C-Clamp all the way. I used the harmonic once and never released the prop from the shaft it was a waste of time to use it. Not that it does not work but it did not work for me the day I used it.
