    Waksurfing after ACL repair

Hey all. I tore my ACL and Left / Right Meniscus a month ago . Not going to have surgery until February and I was told it is at least 6 months before I could possibly wakeboard.

Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar surgery and how soon could you wakesurf. I figured I could wakesurf earlier then 6 months, but don't think the doctor fully understood what I meant by wakesurfing.

I'm the Fiancee of RubberDucky and a Certified Athletic Trainer. First off I believe you should be able to wakesurf 4 months post-op, June, as long as your surgery goes well and you rehab well. In my experience I'm going to give you alittle advice that is going to help you come out of surgery ALOT better. First - make sure you have full range of motion before surgery. Second - work on your strength. Do Leg lifts, calf raises, squats, balance, and quad sets (where you flex your quad for 5 seconds and relax). Third - depending on what type of graft you are getting will depend on your type of rehab. You can have either a patellar tendon graft or a hamstring graft. Fourth - make sure you are willing to go through some pain. It is all worth it, believe me. I completely believe you should be able to be back by June, 4 months postop. Hope this helps and if you have any questions, just let us know.

I skied 3 weeks after having my torn Meniscus trimmed. The first knee I had done, the repaired (stapled) the Meniscus, so I was out of commission for a few months. Of course, I dont think wakesurfing was really a sport back then, but I think I would have done it as soon as I could

Good luck with the knee though!

Had the ACL 10 years ago. Feb 2010 had partial knee replacement. I was wakesurfing in May 2010. I think the pain and recovery was about the same. Piece of cake, get as much physical therapy as possible.

right on, so sounds like 3-4 months if I am on top of my rehab.

This will be my 3rd knee surgery, 1st on my left knee. 1st was an ACL and meniscus repair on my right knee and they used my patella. 2nd was actually this last september on my left knee again for meniscus and surface cartiladge. This time I think I am going to opt for the hamstring.

I've been doing wall sits, calf raises, and working my hamstrings like crazy to get ready for the surgery so I can can get a headstart on rehab. I'll start doing other lifts as I get more comforatable on it.

I tore mine in early March 2008. Surgery on May 15th and I was out wakesurfing on July 4th. I bought a Donjoy custom fitted knee brace before the surgery and wore it for the first summer of surfing. No problems at all!

I used to wakeboard a lot, I didn't wakeboard at all after my surgery for the rest of the summer. I tried wakeboarding last summer a few times... heelside airs, easy... toeside airs felt really strange on my knee. I gave up wakeboarding for now, I'd rather wakesurf anyway.

Hmmm, which knee was the repair and do you ride regular or goofy?

Going with a CTi custom and plan on wearing it for surfing and boarding. That's encouraging that you were doing that less then 2 months. Hopefully they don't have to sew my meniscus because then I'll be on crutches for 6 weeks before I could start rehab.
