have an 09 22Ve with the 343 PCM. The Engine has never been anything but great, always enough power and havent had any problems- has nearly 200 hours. Just maintain oil and fluids. and if you plan to put a lot of ballast then re-proping might be a good thing to look at! Good LuckLast edited by jmhatchett; 11-17-2010, 02:51 PM.

It depends what year boat your looking at on what engines were options. I know when I went looking for a used boat it was a no go for me when I called and they said it had a mercuiser. I like the marine power engine better. Alot of guys on here like the merc.+- I made sure I got a marine power in my 2003 and have been very happy with that choice. Its more important on the condition of the boat than what engine it has. They were all good engines...me I just fell in love with the marine power engine when we became a Tige dealer in 05 and couldnt see me having anything different. Marine power made a 5.7L 335-340hp depending on what year and a 6.0L 375-400hp?? depending upon the year.
Long story short here is how I rate the marine engines from model yrs.2008 and earlier. Have not worked on a newer than 08 marine power eng.or merc. so I cant compare to the 2009/10/11 PCM or Indmars wich I have.
1.Marine power
2.PCM
3.Indmar
4.Mercruiser

I like marine powers placement of the starter. I dont like merc. waterpump set up. I prefer the crank driven ones. Marine power exhaust manifolds hold up the best IMPO. I see alot of boats that run in salt and MP manifolds have far less leaking problems and last longer. Like I said before they are all fine motors if taken care of. Just liked what I saw when I started working on the MP and have always liked they way they run and hold up.
