I am pretty certain that when a car manufacturer makes a revision, there is a part number change. Other wise, dealers would still be stocking the outdated part along side the revised part.
With GM, the counter man can easily pull up the revision history on Par-Tech and see all the old part numbers. This is important when the tech brings in the original part number and wants a replacement. If this info was not available, the counter person would be trying to find/order the outdated part.
