    Forum Opinion - 2006 Tige 24v - Purchase Advice

Yesterday, I took a 2006 Tige 24v out for a test ride. The boat performed very well. Here are several pics that the owner had previously provided. The boat is cleaner than the pics portray.

The interior and gel coat are very good. However, there are several surface rust spots on the trailer.

The boat doesn't have many options other than a nice kicker stereo with kicker amp and a PCM motor. The boat has 268 hours. I will have the boat inspected on Tuesday.

I would appreciate any input from forum members regarding the value of this boat, anything I should tell the marina to focus on during the inspection and any other advice that will help in my decision to purchase this boat.

    Thanks

    Paul

looks like average shape. you didn't say how much they were asking for the boat.the only way we can tell you if it sounds good is the price as that adjusts for any faults the boat has. like the rust on the trailer which is not uncommon on a 5 year old painted trailer with average use.the hours are low i have a 07 22ve with 425 hours all trouble free.look to make sure the underside of the boat has no hull damage, ask if the batteries have been replaced, how often was oil changed? has the impeller been replaced and v-drive fluid changed. does the bilge pump work ect.was the boat towed long distances?
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

From a purchase standpoint, I wouldnt worry about some rust on a 5 year old trailer, pretty normal.

basic stereo: big expensive stereos on boats are kinda like pools in the backyard. They add to the "curb appeal" but dont really add to the value of the boat. Besides, this gives you the option to upgrade when you want and to go with what you want.

Perfect Pass is easy to add and not really expensive. It's worth every penny to save your marriage

One plus I see is the lack of the snakeskin vinyl inserts that was very popular then. It looked good, but didnt hold up as well.

I've heard the 24V/Ve has a better ski wake then the 22V/Ve, but never experienced myself.

The 24 can produce an equally impressive surf wake, just needs more weight then the smaller models. Same with the wake-board wake.

Rough water - biger = better.

      Looks like a serious contedner.

The boat can be purchased for $31,500.

It wasn't trailed long distances. The owner lives on the lake. The boat was stored in the white building in the last pic.

I should have a complete set of the service records on Tuesday. From discussions with the owner, the oil was changed each season when it was winterized, new impeller was installed at the beginning of this season and the steering cable was replaced (warranty).

I don't know about the batteries - good suggestion. Not sure about the v-drive fluid or the bilge pump. I'll make sure the marina addresses these items.

        Thanks

2006 is drive by wire and I dont think PP makes any unit for them, good looking boat and price.

Then Speed-Set would be a Plug'n-Play then, right? Tige already has the harness and plug right there under the helm.

              Hey Paul,
I'm not a fan of the teak maintanence.

It looks to be missing a rack, speed control, spare tire and tower speakers.

              What's it got for ballast?

              Otherwise, nice boat.

                10 minutes twice a year to re-oil.

It looks to be missing a rack
The swivel is there, just not the forks. These can be had.

                speed control
                Easily added.

                spare tire
                Cheap to get

                tower speakers.
Factory option, so not really "missing" This is actually a good thing, because the factory tower speakers were just in-boat type coax. Great for surfing and the party cove, but not the best for boarding, etc. no speaker/amp makes it easy to add on what you want.

                What's it got for ballast?
It's a Tige, dont you know they dont need any

J/K. This gives the prospective buyer the opportunity to build his own based on their needs. If surfing is a high priority, then the factory hard tanks would need to be either yanked and replaced or supplemented at the least.

Was the teak platform an option in 06? Although I like the look of the teak platform, I wouldn't have ordered the boat with one.

The boat doesn't have speed control or factory ballasts. It does have a removable fat sack in the left rear storage area and a pump. I don't recall the lbs on the sac.

As far as use, in order of priority we'll tube, wakeboard, ski and surf the first year. Once my kids get more comfortable, I'm certain surfing will be the number one priority. Since we'll need extra weight to produce a nice surf wake, I'll post a question soon regarding this topic i.e. what's needed and cost?

I’m mostly buying the boat for my kids (13 & 14), their friends and their friend’s parents. Before long, our kids will be off to college. My wife and I want to spend as much time as possible with them over the next four years. Once they're college bound, I’ll sell the boat and get back into classic cars, 68 – 72 Corvettes.

Finally, any added feedback on the boats sales price would be appreciated. Again, we’ll only have the boat for 4 years and if possible I’d like to limit my loss to about 50% of the acquisition cost.

                        Thanks.

Teak was std and fiberglass was the option

That sac and a pump will probably be all you guys need for the first season of surfing. A single sac and a few peeps seated in the corner will prodice I nice wake for a group of beginners and novice to learn and have fun with.

For wake-boarding, you may get by for a couple of seasons without ballast, depending on how fas the newbies progress.

Cost: couple bills to 2K depending on the sacs and setup.

Sell it cause the kids go off to collage Man, some of the best trips out on the boat didnt involve the kid(s) going

I think the price is a perfect starting point, but buying a depreciating asset based on how much it will or wont sell for down the road is kinda a tough call.

I do want to limit my investment to the low $30's. Although I could spend more, this economy and current administration concern me.

As respects to price, what do you mean starting point? I think the $31,500 is the seller’s bottom dollar. Should this boat sell for less?

And yes, there will be times when my wife and I take the boat out - without the kids

                            Great feedback - thank you

The sellers asking price only the HIGHEST the seller will get for the boat. The selling price is between the asking price and your first offer. To back up your first offer, look around at what other comperable boats are selling for, price it out on NADA here: http://www.nadaguides.com/default.as...39&y=2006&ml=T

Then make an offer, if he turns you down, make another higher offer. He should give you a counter offer, unless he priced it very low to sell quickly, which some people are doing these days.
