    Advice on Boat Purchase

    I'm considering the following boats:

    2005 Tige 22V
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/1992556356.html

    2006 Centurion Avalance
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/2033528353.html

    2002 Malibu Wakesetter
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/boa/2023344595.html

I plan to used the boat with my wife and two kids (13 & 14). We'll use the boat for wakeboarding, wakesuring, tubing and waterskiing. We'll never have more than 4 adults and 4 kids on the boat.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks.

The Tige 22v is a great boat. You may want to do some research on the Centurion, they are good surfing boats but I have heard they have some issue, just can't remember right now what it was. I like the room of the 23v Malibu, I haven't heard any bad things about that boat.

      Dale,

      Thanks for the input.

Can you surf behind the 22v? Is there enough room for 4 adults and 4 kid?

Also, if I can purchase the 2005 22V for less than $30,000, is that a fair price?

      Thanks again.

ya thats a fair price, we have a fully loaded 05 22v for sale for 29K.
1,000 lbs factory ballast, 6.0L, bimini, boat cover, tow speakers, 6 interior speakers, 10" sub, 2 amps, tandem axle aluminum trailer, 313hrs.

Do not buy the centurion we have serviced a few of them. not a good boat at all.

With ease! This boat will surf well with about 600Lbs of ballast or more.

Plenty of room for 8 to 10.

          IMO, yes.

              X2 on chpthril comments.

We just bought our 05 22v at the end of this season. 1st day out with it we had 10 peeps (6 adults, 4 kids). Had about 600lbs of ballast and surfed our A??es off!! Comfortably fits 4-6 adults and kids just depending on how big the kids are. Tons of room for all the gear. I thought about going bigger but sounded like the wake might be a little bit more difficult to dial in and not that much better (my impression only). Plus the size was just a bit too big overall given how many peeps we would realitically have with us 90% of the time.

We bought the boat primarily to be able to surf behind but will be doing all the other water activities as well. Only downside might be the wake is a little big to be slalom skiing. But not many peeps are doing that now and what little I do, it is just for fun and not serious.

$30,000 or below is a good price. The $29,000 that the other poster has for sale is a good price too assuming the boat is in good to excellent condition which I would think it is from anyone on this forum.

Don't know about the other boats as I haven't any experience with them no heard anything one way or another.

Any Other questions about the 05 22v from a new owner's perspective - I would be happy to try to answer.

              Good Luck!!

Excellent feedback. Sounds like you and your family are having a blast with your new boat.

How many hours on your boat when purchased? Is this your first wakeboard boat? Did you look at other brands? What is the horsepower on your boat? Have there been any surprises?

I certainly appreciate your and the other forum members input. Based upon what I've learned thus far, a Tige 22v looks like the best boat for my family.

All I need to do now is locate the best boat for the money. My goal is to have this purchase completed by the middle of January.

                Thanks again.

I'd be interested in what issues you are referring to.

What makes them a bad boat? Drive train, hull, ect?

You'd like any/all. We're pretty partial to Tige here on this board: only thing I'd change in your opening:

NEVER have more than 4 kids and 4 adults....

Each kid will bring their own friends and you'll break that 8 rule by the end of your first month of ownership!

                      Have fun looking.

Well im not on here to bash brands but from my experience, hull, construction, i cant really say bad drivetrain (just not a fan of Merc Crusier's).

The Bu and TIGE are the best to pics here. CHP lined it out pretty good. the TIGE is the best all around boat for your family and if you have small kids the TIGE is the best. It has a deeper free board and I can tell you that makes a huge diffrence with small kids.

Not to mention the surf wake is killer on that boat when ballast correctly.

But you will anyways...lol. I tend to shy away from dealers that bash boats to sell their own product.....

Every boat manufacturer has it's issues at times...all of them.

Either way, I'm sure that any of the above choices would make a great family boat.

I didn't say tige and malibu dont have issues. Also am i really bashing it to sell my brand? I am like 1800 miles from him and honestly dont care what he picks. I told him my 05 is for sale for around the same price so he knew it was a reasonable price for the one near him.

I didn't say they suck or anything all i said was dont buy it its not a good boat. I believe im entitled to my opinion. However if you say im "bashing" your definition of bashing and mine is different. I know for a fact that centurion has had problems with the hull. So if its a legit problem then how is it bashing am i supposed to not mention that problem to someone who asks about all 3 brands? if he asks i will tell what i know.

Are you telling me that if a guy walks in my door says hey im interested in Tige Malibu and Centurion what can you tell me about all 3 of them? That i cant talk about hull designs with him?
Since the hull design is about 50% of the reason that people buy Tige's i believe i would need to explain to him why my hull is better and the issues they have with there hull.
