Is there anyone other than I having problems keeping the board rack on myAlpha Z tower? It doesn't matter how much red loctite I use, its been back to the dealer a couple time but it keeps coming loose. It fell in the lake with the boards last time out with me attached while pivoting around to remove a board. It was a bit embarrassing with other boaters around.

My starboard rack keeps loosening up, so I usually have to tighten it up every one or two trips to the lake. I really need to use some loctite...maybe that will be enough for mine.
Ask your dealer to make sure that the attachment bolts are long enough. Supposedly there were a few failures that were attributed to some racks being manufactured with bolts that were too short.

That happened to mine also, so i took it to my dealer and he ordered longer bolts and i put them back on with some loctite and never a problem since then.
There will be the regular bolt that goes into the tower, then there will be a cross bolt that goes through the rack into the tower and out the other side of the rack with a nut. This will stop all loosening of the racks.Last edited by 91Terminator; 10-27-2010, 04:13 PM.FairTax.org

I have little to add other than it was an issue for me on my port side. Mine actually fell off (actually flew off) while towing the boat at 70 mph to my dealer for my first service. He replaced it under warranty. I simply check mine before I tow it and periodically while on the boat. I really haven't had issues since.
What Terminator said is true...My dealer called me late this summer and said they had something to install on my tower for my rack the next time I bring it in. I assume that's what it is...

Loose board racks
I had this problem when I bought my boat. I just took it all apart cleaned out the holes because there was grease and metal shavings in the holes. I have Sampson racks and the bolts are long enough but the original locktight didn't hold due to the grease / debris in the hole. Clean the holes, use longer bolts and locktite and you should be fine, I haven't had a problem since.
Hope this helps...
