    Oil Change - 08 Marine Power 340hp

I changed my oil this weekend and I can't figure out how much oil this motor is supposed to hold. I drained the oil out of the factory drain hose using a pump. I raised and lowered the bow to help be sure I got it all. When I filled it back up I put 4 qts in and it shows over full on the dipstick. I did run the boat for a couple minutes after filling to make sure the filter was full. This is the 4th time I've changed it and I have never been able to get more than 4 qts in it. Am I doing something wrong?

Check the oil level before you start! If it's in the safe range or higher, put back the same amount you pulled out. If it's below the safe range, put in what you pulled out + a bit more, but no more then 4.5-5 qt's.

I would also check into the dip-stick recall to see if it applies to your engine if you haven't already.

Didn't know about a dipstick recall.

Does anyone no the length that the dipstick tube should be? Or any other way I can check to see if I need to shorten my tube?

I just drained all the oil, lifted the boat up and down to make sure all oil was out.then added 5 quarts.Drove the boat, checked the oil and marked that as full.I get 5 quarts out when i drain it each time.So i think it's okay.

Anybody have a 07 MP 340 HP engine that can measure your dipstick tube and give me a measurement?

My dealer told me it was 4 in the pan, 1 in the can (comes out to five or just shy of 5q) for the 340 MP (2007 anyway)

The dipstick tube is 15 and 1/4 inches from top of tube to the oil pan. The dipstick is 24 1/2 inches from metal tip to where the metal tip contacts the top of the tube. Hope this helps

Did you have to shorten your tube when you received the recall?

Nope your not doing anything wrong, I went throught the same doubt that you are going thru right now. The capacity is 4 qts. Sounds crazy but thats all it holds on this engine. I got worried the first few times I changed my oil and thought the engine was buring or consuming a lot of oil. But, after speaking with the tech at the dealer and doing the subsequent oil changes, 4qts out, 4 qts in and it's right on the mark (dipstick).

I guess they use a shallower oil pan than normal for either the Marine Power or Tige' application.

                              Hope this helps.

Addition: I am reading this thread more closely and I see that Robert has the same vessel as me and he is getting 5 qts, maybe the engines installed werent consistent, but I know all mine holds is 4 qts.

By the way Robert, where in Richmond do you boat?
