I got worried the first few times I changed my oil and thought the engine was buring or consuming a lot of oil. But, after speaking with the tech at the dealer and doing the subsequent oil changes, 4qts out, 4 qts in and it's right on the mark (dipstick).

I guess they use a shallower oil pan than normal for either the Marine Power or Tige' application.

      Hope this helps.

Addition: I am reading this thread more closely and I see that Robert has the same vessel as me and he is getting 5 qts, maybe the engines installed werent consistent, but I know all mine holds is 4 qts.

By the way Robert, where in Richmond do you boat?
I boat at lake anna near fredericksburg.

Robert did you receive the recall letter and measureing straw from MP and check your dipstick length with the straw ? When you change your oil as stated in your post where is your mark on the dipstick? Is it between the low and add cross sections? Thanks again

I measured my dipstick tube today and the tube is 15 5/8" from the top to where it meets the motor. The dipstcik is 24 1/4" to the bottom of the handle, the handle slides around the tube about 1/4". Anybody know what the range of acceptance is? Anybody else with a 07 MP 340HP engine that knows, or can measure, what the length of there dipstick and tube? I emailed MP about a week ago and havent heard back. THANKS

dood dont worry so much about it.. Drain it and use 5 quarts to fill with a new filter. Unless its smoking from the water and or leaking the oil is not going anywhere. Change your oil every 6 months and you wont have any issues with it!

My dipstick doesn't look like yours.I don't have the yellow extended tip protruding from handle.

I have a 2008 Z1, MP 320 HP and have changed my oil 4 times. I questioned the fluid level at first with my boat. Dip stick is full at 4 1/4 quarts to include filter. I am sucking every ounce of oil from the pan and hose. I know...a V8 I expected to need about 5-6 quarts. I have the same dip stick. I even called Marine Power and they said 4 1/4 qts is fine even though the owners manual says approx 5 quarts....still makes me nervous. You hate to over-fill the engine (according to the dipstick) with oil at 5 quarts when you are running the boat (at a serious angle) for wakesurfing for an extended period of time.

Is this the Rotella everyone's using in their MP 340hp?

You are correct. The Rotella is an excellent oil for marine applications.
                              Oh Yeah!
