Ok i have a 2003 20v Rider's Edition and I need a cruise control really bad. I've been looking at the perfect pass site and I'm kinda confused. All i want is to be able to hold a speed. I dont care how that is achieved. I dont mind speeding to the desired speed and then setting it. i just want to be able to hold the speed. I really want the cruise system but they say they dont recommend them for vdrives. Is this true? I dont wanna pay over a grand and all i want is to hold the speed. Will a perfect pass cruise work for me?

I might not be the best source on here...well I am not but I will comment.
I am new to the perfect pass product but have been using it now for about two months. It came on the used boat we bought. It is the full version. And it is awesome!! You say you don't want to spend over a grand. I can understand that. And I don't know exactly what kind of activities you do that you would be using the system for either. But I can tell you for the surfing and wakeboarding we do...strickly recreational... it is great to be able to say "set 9.3 on the speed and 7 on taps." Then as you are surfing you can be very specific about what speed you want set (you are the one surfing) if you would like to have a change.
Using the cruise system from what I read, all you can do is ask for faster or slower. I think after awhile this might lead to arguments (unless you live in a perfect world). I think we all have been there asking for more or less speed and that leading to issues later.
When you ask for more speed using the cruise system, your driver bumps up the cruise and you want more so they bump it up another time pretty soon you get it right or you don't. Then lets say you, for what ever reason, you cancel the system (not put it in standby mode) and now you have to guess again what speed you want and exactly when to press the button to engage it at the speed. Yes you have a speedo to reference but that does have some variance it is as we all know too. What looks like 13.5 to one person might look like 13.75 to another and that does make a difference in the wake for different people.
I see this question you have similar to a person asking what computer do I need. Most people think that the computer that does what they want at the moment is the right computer but soon after the purchase they discover they want to do something else they just learned about or use a different program because it has some cool features. But the computer they just bought 6 months ago can't do it. Had the bought the better, more powerful computer the chances of that happening as quickly is less likely.
Similarly, you might think this is all you need but before you know it, you will be wanting something a little better or something with a few more features. If the grand is your sticking point...I really feel it would be worth it to go the extra little distance if you can find a way and get the full meal deal. BUT I totally understand if in all honesty you can't realistically get the grand together and would really need to stick with the cruise system.
I hope this is comming across the right way. I mean nothing other than to say if you can go the distance, I bet you will be happier for it.
I hope someone will comment on the technical aspect of the issue for you. We will probably both learn something. Good luck with your decision. I have a friend that has a 2004 20v and he hasn't had anything since he bought the boat. He used ours for 30 minutes soon after we bought the boat...now he is really wanting the system too.

I added Perfect Pass to my 1995 MasterCraft Maristar 200 VRS and my 2003 Tige' 22V Riders Edition came with it. It is great. The MC was impossible to hold a steady wakeboard speed, the PP held it to +/- 1/2 MPH. I only had one problem with PP which happened this spring: dirty connection on the dashboard control module. It lets me concentrate on driving, not controlling speed. I will always have some sort of cruise control on any ski boat I have.

I know you said you want to stay under a grand, but I still need to recommend the STAR GAZER.
With this unit, you do not need to drill a hole in the hull of the boat. With the other PP system you need to add a paddle wheel to the bottom of the hull. The star gazer is very fast to install.Tige, it's a way of life!

My PP has the option of wakeboard or slalom skiing. Wakeboard setting holds speed, slalom setting holds RPM. Both work straight or in turns. Extreme turns (way sharper than normal turning w/ a skier) may result is dropping the wakeboard speed by 30%- 50% at which time the PP may drop out. If that happens, the throttle will not automatically move from the last position ( but it will not go to ‘zero’.) You have to manually return to near set speed and push a button to re-engage the unit. No big deal. I have never had the slalom / set RPM drop out.

My 2cents: spend the extra bux for the system that will hold speed when you turn. It is a marriage (Relationship?) saver to have your wife (or any other driver) be able to drive you and not have the UP/DOWN speed problems.
Our 24ve has the TigeSet that lets me set the desired speed BEFORE I start. Hammer the throttle and it finds AND KEEPS the speed. Probably the best option there is keeping everyone happy. You wont miss the extra money when you use it.

If the cruiser only holds RPMs, that will not be good enough for wakeboarding. When you are wakeboarding and exert force to the boat (cutting out or into the wake) your boat speed will fluctuate. When you are in the air (exerting little force on the boat), your boat will speed up on you, a recipe for a face plant. Also if you stop turning/jumping your force on the boat is much less, allowing your boat to plane and pickup speed (I would guess around 5mph).
When you are slalom skiing the force of the boat traveling at 32-36 mph is far greater than what a general skier will exert back on the boat. Your rope is also attached to a lower pylon making the lever arm when outside the wake much less.
I don't have the money to throw a $1000 PP system into my boat, but I know if and when I do, it will be the WakeBoard Pro. My Dad had an old saying "Do it right the first time."

well now you guys are making me want wakeboard pro.. that is, if i dont have to install another paddle wheel on my boat. i have one already for the stock speed gauge.. am i going to have to install another one for wakeboard pro? i just dont feel right about drilling a hole in my boat. If not I may just get stargazer
