    Limp mode question

There has been a lot of talk here lately about limp mode. I thought limp mode was a protective mode boats went into to protect themselves from damage.

If a boat goes into limp mode, shouldn't it idle fine and only give trouble when trying to accelerate. I'm not sure but it seems like limp mode is being blamed for all sorts of problems.

Limp mode can be used for mulitible issues, code 81 puts the engine into an idle only stance, and there are several code 81s, there is also power reduction which limits maxmun power due to , overheat, low oil preassure, you can loose a cam sensor and go into power reduction, because the computor has no reference for timing, hope that helps.
