Surfing behind a Tige with spray pockets?

I know that Tiges are known to make great wakesurf boats. My budget is around $25K. Some of the early 2000 boats have spray pockets on the sides. How do they effect the surf wake?

I think that they actually make it better, the rear of the boat is narrower and so it sinks easier.

I would not hesitate to get an older Tige if surfing is what you are after. Surfdad, one of our members, surfs an older 23V with a huge wake when he adds weight.
    Be excellent to one another.

We threw 1800# on the back of a pre 2150 this summer and the wake was awesome.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

Not to be picky , but what are you calling spay pockets, the narrow tail of hull? or the actual pockets under the side that control spray, they are two different items.
1992 Tiges on up narrowed the tail of the boat because a canoe is the ideal slalomn wake forcing the wake to narrow, second there are spray pockets in front of the narrowed hull to roll the water down and ellimnate spray so you can see your next buoy, CC came out with spray pockets around 1996 and called the hull TSC for total surface control, hope this helps.

I am referring to the pockets. On the newer wake boats, I believe they were eliminated to enhance (clean up)the wake. Just wondered if it effected the surf wake the same way?

I think the spray pockets had more of a negative impact on the wakeboard wake then it did the the surf wake.

The older Tiges with the spray pockets have great surf wakes. If your looking to primarily surf with a 25k budget then you are barking up the right tree. I would look for a 23v for around 23k, beat 'em down to 21k and spend the rest on a prop and ballast and an FAE. You'll have a great boat and a great surf wake and no shortage of people who like being your boat better because you have an FAE. Chicks man.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

What he said, 'cept I'd also look at the 21V. It's a bit shorter than the 23V and makes a pretty good wake as well. Bigger boats require more ballast to create the wake...just sayin

I'm running the ACME 525 on my boat and it's the perfect prop for surfing. I'd also think about PerfectPass. It's a pain to keep the boat at the right speed and PerfectPass does it a lot better than you ever could. If you're the boat driver, you will appreciate not having to constantly adjust the throttle.

With a little advice from Surfdad and others on the forum and some sacs from chpthril we absolutely love surfing behind our 23v. I plan on keeping that thing until an RZ2 with a touch screen comes down to my price range which is likely to be a LONG time
