I think the only MC that has a diesel as an option is the 300 or what ever their cruiser is called.

MC and CC tested their boats on my lake here in fla. and were useing the yanmar diesel, the one engine was a 260hp, and the other was 310hp, they went through aprox. 12 props before they zeroed it in, my customer owns the MC test boat, I also got to view the charts, fuel economy was 8.5 gph with the 260hp, and 10gph with the 310hp, the MC is an 2004 22ft xstar at 4000lbs, the CC was a 206 , performance was average until the turbo kicks in and then its hard on your arms being pulled, neither had a smooth transition.
The yanmar dealer here did all the leg work to profect the MC and then when they were done MC gave the contract to VW, they built 16 MC with the VW , 8 engines failed and they cancelled the option and are doing more work back with yanmar , but the economy is hurting the process currently, this is also why yanmar went with CC in testing because they were mad at MC.
The yanmar dealer told me that it is a 22,000.00 cost to do the install turn key

Question: Can you take an auto / truck diesel and just drop it in a boat? Arn't there marine specific mods needed to make it safe: spark arrestor, leak proof fuel systems, moisture resistant electrical system?

If so, just buy a marine diesel.
