    Watching those videos...

Anyone ever considered the effect of the swim deck on wave cleanliness? The size of the wave is controlled by the things we're talking about on this thread, but the last thing the water surface sees is the edge of the swim deck. It would take some work, but I wonder what effect tinkering around with the size/shape/edge profile of the swim deck could have on the wave.

For example, the boat is tilting. So is the swim deck's trailing edge. But what would happen if we could independently adjust the angle, or shape, of that trailing edge?

Yes, Ragboy has made a custom swim platform for his 24Ve that helps to clean up the surf wake a little, it clips off the corner a bit and gets the swim platform out of the way of the wave, a little bit.

We also experimented with the deck clean off and found it was quite needed. It prevents a rooster tail from being in your face while surfing. The 2010 RZ2 didn't need it, but the deck on the 2007 24ve is a completely custom shape made out of aluminum.

I'm not surprised it suppressed the prop wash on the 24Ve. I AM surprised that the RZ2 doesn't benefit from the swim deck. That implies the prop is positioned more forward than on the 24Ve.

I didnt have time so go through this whole thing just a few of the post, however I have ran an Rz4 last year and went to the Rz2 this year with pro ballast. However when adding weight the Rz2 is so much easier to weight compared to the Rz4 it was much harder to get balanced and spread the weight out in the right spots where as the Rz2 you could just toss 3 people in the front and the wake would length where as on the Rz4 put 3 people in the front the wake would lengthen but loose it's steepness yes taps can fix that but still much different aspect and boats unsure of why though.

No, actually the 2008 or 9 RZ deck was made smaller, and it has much less of a lip underneath, that is why it is not an issue. In 2007 the RZ deck was as much of an issue as the 2007, if not more. My 24Ve deck was large, and had a huge lip underneath that completely messed up the wake when I got to that "magic orientation". The aluminum fixed it, the main issue is the lip, but the shape also helps. The new deck is completely smooth underneath.

I would never have believed the amount of difference there is, until seeing it for myself. I knew there would be a difference, but not like this.

Again, I could be fartin in the wind here, but this makes more sense, to what I see in actual experimentation. Its not about the amount of weight, its about attaining the magic orientation of the boat, and sinking down from that point."

That's what I meant to say.

Couple things, I had to get the RZ2 to the dealer for service and a few minor things, this is the first time we have let up on it, and I wanted this stuff done before the polar bear event, so I didn't get to get out on the Ve yet. I should be able to next week, I honestly can't wait to get out to do some more tests.

I was thinking about our "how to weight your v-drive" video and the tips that were originally were given to me by Dennis, the Big Kahuna, the Master Weighter, the Wakeologist, and yes, there is a new one, the Wake Whisperer....

Weight starting in the surf side corner, and work your way out from there. Still holds true.

                    We're still talking about swim decks, right? {grin}

Anyway, my 24Ve's deck has the lip too. I wonder if one could flip the deck over and fill the void with something like potting material. That would get rid of the lip without having to fabricate a whole new deck.

Ragboy, I just wanted to get your opinion on the lip on this platform. I suspect you would say to get this lip smoothed out? It's on a 22v. Could you comment on this pls? I'm not asking about the exhaust...just the bottom of the platform. Thanks in advance.

That's what my swim platform looks like, too. Seems like we could pour some sort of potting compound, etc. in the "mold" formed by that lip and "correct" the stock swim platform without too much trouble.

I don't know...thought about adding some fiberglass to the lip area but still try to keep it from getting heavy. I don't want to add more weight to the platform for the most part. I don't really understand why the lip is there to begin with. Seems like it could be shaved, and then the edge have a small amount of fiberglass put over it to seal the edge. That would not add weight for the most part and I wouldn't have to modify the entire bottom of the boat. Seems like the lip is just where the top and bottom of the platform meet.

                          Any thoughts?

I'm sure you could make an insert out of aluminum or sheet metal but then you would have to come up with a way to attach it. On my 22ve the lip has never been an issue and doesnt bother me at all. I would think the only ones it would bother are those that do aerial tricks.

@embo That lip looks minor, it was huge on my 24ve. Your lip looks like the one on my current rz2, and I don't have any issues with the stock 2010 rz2 deck. If you get the rub rail kissing, what does your wake look like? Is it fairly clean?
