    Gas Usage

Our 2005 22v with the Tige GM Vortec 5.7l MPI (340 HP), consumes very close to 13 GPH at 30 MPH. I gasp every time I throw the hammer down.

Do the owners of similar boats with fuel flow meters see the same gas burn rates that I'm seeing?

And yes - I have checked and it's set to display U.S. Gallons instead of liters.

I have also attached a picture of the Fariah Fuel Flow meter on the dashboard.

That seems high. Did you verify with refill?

My Sea Doo Speedster gets 4 mpg.

I think 13 mpg on a super heavy towboat is pretty good.
Friends Howard burns 250 gallons in about 2 hours.

        My 20v is about 11gph at 30mph.

          David:
Yes. I also continue to calibrate after every refill and try to get it closer. It is now off by less than 1 gallon after a 34+ gallon refill, but the 13gph does not go away

I'm not sure who Friends Howard is. I can only hope his boat is either a barge or is really, really fast.

            I have a switch V with the Marine Power 5.7 340hp
I went out today, and we skied for 4.5 hours and only used 11 gallons of gas.
I have never checked at speeds.
I am more interested at average time usage. When I get down to 7 gallons, I know that I need to be at the doc with in the next 30 minuets

              Ballast

Is that running with any ballast?

                    Smendez,

That sounds pretty high. I burn about a half a tank a day.

I haven't done the formal calcs, but I about 6 gph. We don't run flat out very often though.

Same engine. Your boat is a little lighter (3505lbs vs. 3945), but you're saying your boat burns between 2.44 gph (11/4.5) to a possibly more realistic 5.5 gph if you were only running half the time of the 4.5 hours.
                        That's still a huge difference.

Are you averaging 3.5 gph (gallons per hour) for each outing or are you saying that you're using about 3.5 gallons per outing?

Either way - that's extremely low. hmmm..

If I went the entire day, I'd burn more than 1/2 tank. Heck, if I run WOT (wide open throttle), I'd be burning over 24 gallons per hour, or so says the gauge.

I'm really confused. I'm either blocking a reality or just don't know what to think.

                            Anyone else have any input?

If you only get 13gph, then after 3hours you would be empty.
                              I have 38-gallon tank, with a 5.7 votec 340hp
I have been out for over 12 hours on one tank.
Ye it is stop and go, and most of time I driving between 15 to 20 mph. (towing skiers and tubes)
I would go off the average usage
