bunch of videos with them blowing up on youtube..... just dont 4 wheel launch your Dmax and youll be ok. it is the front end from the 1500's. might not be on the new ones, but it used to be.
Out of how many million trucks that are on the road with that same front end? My guess is that there are less Chevy IFS front end failures from "heavy duty use" than there are just regular owners with Ford 6.0 issues.
I talked to a Toyota dealer a few weeks ago and he said a diesel Tundra is planned at some point. And all the Tundras and Tacoma's are made in San Antonio I think. I'm not sure how far away the diesel is but I'll check them out when they do. I hope it's an in-line 6, but it'll probably be a V-8.

I have a F250 Turbo diesel crew cab. Used to use an Escalade. Amazing difference. Everyone has their favorites. Here is a link to a previous topic about towing etc... http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11926

Thanks for the replies everyone. Diesel is not a consideration. I've towed my boat with one and it was fantastic, but for a number of reasons I just don't want one.
My 'Burban has been great, but I'd really like a truck bed to throw all of my stuff back there and lock it with a hard tonneau cover.
I have brand loyalty to Chevrolet and would prefer to go that route, but the same dealer also has Toyota, so that's why I'm considering them.
I'm open to Ford, but these are the 2 that I think I've narrowed it down too.
What gear did the 1500 have before the grenade when off? Is it a 4WD truck? If not, did you upgrade the gear when you had it repaired? better gear like a 3.27 or 4.11 is like getting a new truck, but gets pricey if it's a 4wd as you have to do both front and rear.
Chp,
It's the 2wd LS. I didn't up gear it because I have planned on getting rid of it in a year or so all along, so it really didn't want to spend anymore $ on it than necessary. The lack of 4x4 is another reason I want out of it. We have gone to a few ramps where we've had to use a friend's truck to pull it out. That made me feel inadequate .
I know you've been looking at pickups but wouldn't a suburban be able to lock up more stuff than you could fit in a pickup bed with a tonneau cover? Unless you get a full size bed I guess.
But they also say that if you live in TX you got to get yourself a pick-m-up truck and a trailer, the same may hold true for AR.

That is why 4x4 is a necessity on steep and slippery ramps, I've never had any trouble with my little 4Runner!

Ewok,
I like the heavier frame, brakes, and transmission of a 3/4 ton truck. The suburban isn't out of the picture, but I have to find the right one. I don't think they're building 3/4 Burbs anymore right now. I think they have 1500s with the big 6.2 motor, but I'm not sure how the rest of it compares to a 2500 truck. Admittedly, I haven't researched them much because I'm going a different direction.
I've never owned a pick-m-up, maybe that's why I'm itching to get one.
Fair enough, I would definitely like to get a bigger truck to but I'm not willing to part with my G35 and my wife does not want to get anything bigger than a 4Runner...
...but maybe if we have more kids we'll have to get a bigger truck to carry all their stuff, and she'll have to get a bigger truck...

You know what they say about hindsight! At the time we had a 18 foot Century that stayed on a lift an hour a way, so towing was never part of the plan when we bought it in '02. What little hunting I do anymore is walk in or hop on a 4 wheeler. So, at the time, I didn't want to spend the extra 4K on 4wd that came with a bunch of other stuff that I didn't want.
The bottom line is, we tow our boat an hour each way when we go to any number of great lakes around here. Some of the roads get hilly and winding, so that's why a 3/4 ton truck of some sort appeals to me with the much heftier build.
The wife already has the car she wants, so it's my turn! Yeeeaaahhhh rrrrrriiiiigggghhhhtttt!
The new 2011 Silverado HD is an amazing ride. I drove one last week and it felt like a half ton in the handling department. I drove the diesel but the new 6.0 litre is suppose to have more power than the old one and better fuel economy. I think if you drove one you would be sold!
